About the job
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our hub, working in the Payment Transact Tribe area and using Erlang as the main backend technology.
You don’t need previous Erlang experience.
What matters is seasoned, hands-on backend engineering experience in functional programming, demonstrated through genuinely challenging projects. We’re open to engineers coming from functional programming backgrounds such as Elixir, Scala, Haskell, Clojure, F#, or other functional languages.
This is a backend-heavy role, focused on building and maintaining reliable, scalable systems behind payment integrations. Strong backend depth, solid computer science fundamentals, and experience solving complex engineering problems are essential.

What we’re looking for
7+ years of backend software engineering experience
Strong, hands-on backend experience in a functional programming language
Experience designing and building complex, scalable, and reliable backend systems and services
Strong understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, scalability, and system design
Practical experience with microservices architecture, with a focus on scalability, performance, and reliability
Practical experience with event-driven architectures and asynchronous communication
Experience designing and working with APIs and complex integrations
Strong problem-solving skills and software engineering fundamentals
Interest in Erlang and willingness to learn it
Senior-level ownership, autonomy, and engineering mindset
Nice to have
Direct experience with Erlang/OTP
Professional experience with Elixir, Scala, Haskell, Clojure, F#, or other functional programming languages
