We are seeking an experienced Freelance Director with a strong background in 3D animation,
episodic production, cinematic storytelling, and Unreal Engine. The ideal candidate has professional
experience directing episodic 3D/CG content and is comfortable guiding creative work within a real-time
Unreal Engine production environment.
The Director will work closely with our 3D Artists, Cinematic Layout Artists, Technical/CG leadership, and
Art Supervisor, guiding each episode from storyboard and shot planning through final animated sequences while maintaining consistency across the series.
Responsibilities
• Direct the visual storytelling, staging, composition, camera movement, pacing, and performances of 3D
animated episodic content.
• Translate scripts and storyboards into clear shot-by-shot cinematic direction for individual episodes.
• Direct and review cinematic work being created in Unreal Engine, including camera placement,
blocking, staging, timing, and sequence development.
• Work closely with experienced Cinematic Layout Artists responsible for cameras, blocking,
composition, and shot development.
• Review work-in-progress sequences and provide clear, actionable creative direction to the 3D
production team.
• Maintain visual, performance, storytelling, and character continuity from episode to episode.
• Work within episodic production schedules, milestones, and delivery requirements while maintaining
creative quality.
• Collaborate with technical artists and CG leadership to ensure creative decisions are achievable within
the Unreal Engine production pipeline.
• Balance creative ambitions with production schedules and technical realities.
Qualifications
• Demonstrated professional experience directing 3D animation, cinematics, animated television, or
comparable CG productions.
• Professional directing experience on episodic productions is required.
• Professional experience working in an Unreal Engine production environment is required.
• Strong working knowledge of Unreal Engine as it relates to real-time cinematics, cameras, sequencing,
staging, lighting, and animation production.
• Strong understanding of episodic storytelling, continuity, pacing, shot design, staging, editing, and
camera language.
• Experience directing and collaborating with senior Cinematic Layout Artists and 3D production teams.
• Ability to communicate effectively with both creative and technical team members and provide decisive,
practical direction under episodic production deadlines.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and creative leadership skills.
Must provide a directing reel or portfolio demonstrating relevant 3D/CG work. Examples of episodic
productions and work created using Unreal Engine are strongly preferred.
