Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Developer with strong experience in COBOL, JCL, NATURAL, and ADABAS to support enterprise legacy applications and modernization initiatives. This is a remote opportunity, so excellent communication skills and strong remote collaboration experience are essential.
Candidates located on the East Coast, particularly those closer to New Jersey, are preferred in case occasional in-person meetings are required.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, enhance, and maintain COBOL, NATURAL, and JCL programs.
Support legacy mainframe applications and integration efforts, including taxation and client systems.
Analyze existing applications and conduct code walkthroughs, technical analysis, and documentation.
Design, code, test, implement, and maintain batch and online mainframe applications.
Troubleshoot production issues, job failures, and system abends; perform root-cause analysis.
Develop and maintain ADABAS databases, file structures, and data access methods.
Build and maintain data feeds, interfaces, file layouts, and integration processes.
Participate in technical planning, system design reviews, and code reviews.
Prepare technical documentation, including program specifications, job flows, architecture diagrams, and data definitions.
Support system integration testing, UAT, and production deployments.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of enterprise Mainframe Development experience with COBOL.
5+ years of JCL development and job scheduling.
3+ years of NATURAL/ADABAS experience.
5+ years working with TSO/ISPF or similar mainframe tools.
3+ years of experience with AFP, PAGEDEF, FORMDEF, and OVERLAY technologies.
Advanced knowledge of COBOL, JCL, and NATURAL programming.
Strong understanding of ADABAS architecture and file structures.
Experience supporting large-scale legacy mainframe environments.
Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
Experience with system integrations, data interfaces, file transfers, and data feeds.
Knowledge of mainframe utilities, job monitoring, and debugging tools.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting taxation, revenue, or government systems.
Familiarity with CICS and online transaction processing.
Experience with legacy modernization or data migration projects.
Knowledge of mainframe security, scheduling, and source-code management practices.
