About The Role
As a Senior Data Scientist at Bet365, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our machine learning capabilities and automating critical business processes. This position involves leading the end-to-end lifecycle of machine learning solutions, from initial research and development to deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders, to translate complex business challenges into innovative data science initiatives. This role offers an exciting opportunity to apply your expertise in a fast-paced environment, focusing on areas such as trading, fraud detection, responsible gaming, and personalization. You will also be instrumental in establishing MLOps practices on Google Cloud Platform, ensuring our models are scalable, reliable, and automated for maximum impact.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong academic background with a Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field, complemented by practical industry experience. Proven experience working in agile, startup-like environments is essential, demonstrating a passion for delivering value iteratively. You should have a track record of designing, building, deploying, and maintaining machine learning models in production settings. Expertise in Python programming and familiarity with data science libraries such as Scikit-learn, Pandas, NumPy, and XGBoost are required. Advanced SQL skills, particularly with Google BigQuery, are highly desirable. Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, especially within the Vertex AI ecosystem—including Pipelines, Workbench, and Endpoints—is critical. Knowledge of containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes, as well as CI/CD principles, is preferred. Additionally, experience with real-time stream processing frameworks such as Kafka will be advantageous.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and deploy AI, machine learning, and predictive models, leading by example in technical execution, code quality, and best practices. This role emphasizes hands-on involvement rather than pure management.
Build, mentor, and guide a pragmatic, delivery-focused team of Junior Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers, fostering a culture of rapid iteration, continuous learning, and disciplined software engineering.
Collaborate closely with the Data Team Lead, Data Product Lead, and AgentOps Team Lead to align data science initiatives with product roadmaps and platform capabilities, ensuring strategic coherence.
Engage regularly with the UK-based Data Science team to share methodologies, align standards, and leverage global technical expertise, promoting cross-team collaboration.
Translate complex and ambiguous business questions into clear, actionable data science projects, delivering measurable business value through rapid prototyping, testing, and deployment cycles.
Partner with Machine Learning Engineers to implement robust MLOps practices on Google Cloud Platform, automating model deployment, monitoring, and scaling to ensure operational excellence.
Establish and maintain data science workflows, standards, and code repositories from scratch within a regional office, setting the foundation for future growth and consistency.
