Senior Transmission Line Engineer – PLS-CADD | Remote, U.S. | Full-Time | $130k–$185k
A growing power engineering consultancy is hiring a Senior/Lead Transmission Line Engineer to support major overhead transmission projects for utilities across the U.S.
This position is specifically for engineers with 5+ years of dedicated overhead transmission line design experience.
Candidates should have substantial, hands-on experience designing 69kV+ overhead transmission lines in PLS-CADD. This is not a distribution engineering, substation engineering, transmission planning, construction/project management, or general civil/structural engineering position.
Responsibilities will include:
Develop and review PLS-CADD models for 69kV+ overhead transmission lines
Perform sag-tension analysis, clearance analysis and structure spotting
Evaluate conductor loading, span lengths, line angles and structure loading
Perform or review PLS-POLE and/or PLS-TOWER analysis
Develop plan & profiles and transmission-line engineering calculations
Support structure selection and foundation coordination
Work on new-build, rebuild, reconductoring and line-upgrade projects
Develop complete engineering packages through IFC/construction
Prepare/review drawings, specifications, calculations, structure schedules and BOMs
Perform technical reviews and QA/QC of transmission-line designs
Coordinate with utility clients, survey, civil/structural teams and construction
Senior engineers may also have opportunities to mentor engineers, lead technical reviews and take greater ownership of projects and client relationships while remaining hands-on technically.
Required Experience
Please apply if you have:
5+ consecutive years of dedicated overhead transmission line engineering/design experience
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
Strong, hands-on PLS-CADD experience
Significant experience designing 69kV+ overhead transmission lines
Hands-on experience with:
Sag-tension
Clearance analysis
Structure spotting
Structure/loading analysis
Plan & profile development
Experience developing transmission projects through detailed design and IFC
Knowledge of NESC and U.S. utility transmission design standards
Preferred
Experience with PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, MFAD, FAD Tools and/or L-Pile, along with PE licensure, QA/QC experience and consulting/utility-client experience, is highly desirable.
