Role Description This full-time remote Computational Biologist role focuses on using quantitative and computational methods to better understand animal health and behavior. Day-to-day responsibilities include designing and conducting research studies, processing and analyzing large biological and behavioral datasets, and developing computational models and algorithms to derive insights. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to interpret results, translate findings into actionable product features, and communicate complex concepts in clear, accessible language. The Computational Biologist will also contribute to data quality standards, documentation, and continuous improvement of analytical pipelines that support Onawa Pet’s mission.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess strong skills in Statistics and Data Analysis for working with complex, noisy biological and behavioral datasets.
Candidates should possess skills in Data Science for building models, developing analytical pipelines, and deriving actionable insights from large-scale data.
Candidates should possess skills in Bioinformatics for handling biological data types, applying computational methods, and integrating multi-modal data sources.
Candidates should possess Research skills for study design, hypothesis testing, experimental planning, and clear scientific communication.
Advanced proficiency in programming languages commonly used in computational biology (such as Python or R), and experience with version control tools.
Familiarity with machine learning methods, data visualization tools, and reproducible workflows in a scientific or product-focused environment.
Graduate-level training in computational biology, bioinformatics, data science, statistics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Ability to work independently in a remote setting, collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, and align work with Onawa Pet’s mission to improve animal wellbeing.
