Full-Stack Product Development Intern, BTGH OS
Company: Beyond the Game Health
Position: Full-Stack Product Development Intern, BTGH OS™
Location: Remote
Commitment: 20–25+ hours per week preferred
Type: Unpaid Internship / Academic Credit Eligible
Reports to: Founder & CEO, working closely with BTGH's technology/product team
About Beyond the Game Health
Beyond the Game Health (BTGH) is a sports-health company connecting athletes, healthcare organizations, brands and communities to turn athlete influence into measurable health engagement and outcomes.
BTGH works at the intersection of sports, healthcare, technology, community engagement and athlete-powered storytelling.
We are currently developing BTGH OS™: The Operating System for Athlete-Powered Health Engagement, a technology platform designed to connect athletes, health organizations, brands, events and communities through measurable engagement.
What We're Building
We are moving BTGH OS from product concept and mockups into its first functional MVP.
The first release is intentionally focused. We are not trying to build the entire vision at once.
The MVP needs to demonstrate a working journey where an athlete, event or campaign can connect a user with relevant health content, drive a measurable action, and provide partners with visibility into engagement and outcomes.
The initial product thesis is:
Athlete + Event + Health Content → User Engagement → Measurable Action → Partner Analytics
For example, someone attending a BTGH event might engage with an athlete-led health campaign, access educational content, take a specific action such as completing a screening, requesting a resource or registering for a program, and generate measurable engagement data that can be surfaced to the participating health or brand partner.
This MVP will be tested through real BTGH events and campaigns and used in demonstrations, partner conversations and fundraising as we continue building toward the broader BTGH OS vision.
What You'll Work On
We're looking for a technically strong, execution-oriented intern who can work alongside our existing team to help build and deploy the first functional version of BTGH OS.
Responsibilities may include:
Translating existing product concepts, workflows and mockups into functional product features
Developing responsive web-based user experiences for athletes, consumers/patients and partners
Building front-end and back-end functionality for the MVP
Creating athlete, event, campaign and health-content profiles
Developing user engagement and action-tracking capabilities
Building QR/link-based campaign journeys that can connect physical events and athlete content to digital experiences
Creating forms, calls-to-action and workflows that capture measurable user actions
Developing basic partner-facing dashboards showing campaign engagement and outcomes
Building and maintaining databases and APIs
Supporting authentication and role-based access as appropriate
Integrating third-party APIs and services when needed
Helping establish analytics, event tracking and data architecture
Testing, debugging and documenting the platform
Supporting deployment and ongoing MVP iterations
Working with the product team to prioritize what must be built now versus what belongs on the longer-term roadmap
Considering privacy, security and responsible data collection as health-related functionality evolves
What the First MVP Needs to Prove
Success is not measured by how many features we can build.
The first release should demonstrate that BTGH can create a measurable digital journey connecting:
Athlete + Event + Health Content → User Engagement → Measurable Action → Partner Analytics
That means we need to be able to answer questions such as:
Who engaged? What content or athlete drove the engagement? What action did the user take? Which event or campaign generated it? What can we responsibly report back to the participating partner?
The MVP should be functional enough to deploy in a real BTGH activation, collect meaningful engagement data and demonstrate the product to prospective healthcare partners, sponsors and investors.
Ideal Candidate
We're especially interested in candidates studying or experienced in:
Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, Health Informatics, Human-Computer Interaction or related disciplines.
You should have hands-on experience with at least some of the following:
JavaScript/TypeScript
React, Next.js or similar modern front-end frameworks
Node.js, Python or comparable backend technologies
REST APIs
SQL and/or NoSQL databases
Git/GitHub
Cloud deployment
Authentication and user-management systems
Analytics/event tracking
Responsive web development
Experience with tools or platforms such as Supabase, Firebase, PostgreSQL, Vercel, AWS, Azure or Google Cloud is helpful but not required.
What Will Make Someone Stand Out
We're particularly interested in someone who has actually built things.
A candidate with a GitHub repository, deployed application, hackathon project, startup MVP or personal product will generally stand out more than someone whose experience is entirely coursework.
Bonus experience includes:
Building a product from prototype to MVP
Healthcare or digital-health technology
Marketplace platforms
Analytics dashboards
CRM or campaign technology
Event technology
AI-enabled applications
API integrations
Data visualization
Privacy/security-conscious product development
Working in an early-stage startup environment
The Person We're Looking For
BTGH moves quickly, so this role is best suited for someone who is comfortable with ambiguity and can turn a product requirement into something functional.
We're looking for someone who can say:
“I understand what we're trying to accomplish. Let me figure out how to build it.”
You should be comfortable asking questions when necessary, but you should not need every technical decision mapped out before you can begin.
What You'll Gain
This is an opportunity to work on an early-stage health-tech product at the point where architecture and product decisions actually matter.
Rather than maintaining an established application, you'll have the opportunity to help build a product from its earliest functional release and see it tested through real sports and health activations.
You'll gain experience across product development, health technology, sports, analytics, startup operations and early-stage product strategy while building work that can become part of your technical portfolio.
Internship Structure
This is currently an unpaid internship intended to provide meaningful hands-on learning and professional experience. Academic credit may be available depending on your institution's requirements.
Candidates should ideally be able to commit 20–25+ hours per week and maintain consistent availability for team meetings, development sprints and product reviews.
