College Counselor (Part-time, remote)
Description: Foresight College Counseling is seeking an enthusiastic, empathic, and confident College Counselor with significant experience advising high school students throughout the college admissions process. A successful candidate will be skilled in connecting with and empowering high school students to navigate their college search process with confidence and develop a powerful, authentic narrative during their college application process. Candidates should be able to ensure that students achieve time-sensitive milestones and demonstrate a successful track record of strong writing and editing skills for resume and essay development.
This position develops a personalized college admissions strategy for high school students. The Counselor is the primary point of contact for parents and also works collaboratively with a team of admissions coaches to ensure an outstanding service delivery for each student. The schedule must be flexible to meet with students outside of school hours.
Responsibilities:
Provide expert guidance to high school juniors on career counseling, course selection, standardized testing, extracurricular activities, and college list development
Manage the college application process with high school seniors from start to finish, advising on how to maximize chance of acceptance, meet strategic deadlines, and develop actionable, quantifiable resumes and powerful personal narratives
Exude confidence and enthusiasm when helping students navigate a complex admissions process
Help students set and meet college planning goals throughout Foresight College Counseling’s comprehensive programs
Support students through the essay process, including brainstorming and topic selection, content and structural feedback, grammar and punctuation review, and specific recommendations for strengthening the final product
Build trust and a strong rapport with students and parents
Be a team player and contribute to the company’s mission of personalizing and simplifying the admissions process
Work independently, be insightful and responsive to students’ needs, and know when to stay ahead of potential issues that may arise
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher
Extensive knowledge of U.S. colleges and universities and current admissions trends
At least 3 years of experience working with high school students on the college search and application process
Prior experience in Performing Arts, NCAA recruitment or Financial Aids is a plus
Experience as a former admissions officer or application reader at a highly selective university is a significant plus
Excellent organizational and motivational skills to connect with students from diverse backgrounds
Proven track record of managing multiple, deadline-driven projects with a growth mindset
Strong writing and editing skills
Demonstrated ability to help students improve their essays through several drafts
Proficient in Google Suite
Salary is commensurate with experience. This role is fully remote and is a key member of our full-time team during an exciting period of growth at Foresight College Counseling.
