The Work
Most Magento roles have you configuring themes or patching extensions on a store that quietly runs in the background. This one is different. You will be working on a large-scale B2B e-commerce platform built on Adobe Commerce Cloud, with a marketplace layer powered by Mirakl and live integrations into ERP, shipping, and order management systems.
This is a forward deployed role. You do not hand off a feature and move on. You own it from the moment a requirement is understood through development, deployment, and whatever happens once it is live in front of real customers and real transactions. When something breaks in production, you are the one tracing it back to the cause.
The platform is genuinely complex: multiple integrated systems, a marketplace layer, and a scale of traffic and order volume that punishes sloppy backend design or slow frontend rendering equally. Whether you sit on the backend, the frontend, or across both, the work is the same in spirit: build something that has to keep working under real conditions, not just pass a demo.
What You Will Own
Magento 2 modules, backend services, or frontend components, depending on your track, built for a live, high-traffic e-commerce platform
REST API integrations connecting Magento to external systems such as ERP, shipping, and Mirakl marketplace workflows
Order processing, catalog, and core e-commerce workflows, end to end
Production issues you personally investigate and resolve, not just triage and forward
Collaboration with product, QA, and other engineers to turn business requirements into shipped, working solutions
Performance and reliability of the systems you touch, not just their initial delivery
Must-Have
Common to all Tracks
Strong hands-on experience with Magento 2 on Adobe Commerce Cloud (ACC) or Magento Cloud specifically, not only Magento Open Source
Demonstrated experience taking a feature from requirement through production, including troubleshooting it once it is live
Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows
Strong communication skills across engineering, product, and QA stakeholders
Backend Track
Deep, hands-on Magento 2 backend development, including building and maintaining custom modules
Strong proficiency in PHP 8.x
Experience building and integrating REST APIs with external systems
Working knowledge of MySQL and database-driven application development
Frontend Track
Deep, hands-on Magento 2 frontend development, including Luma or Blank theme customization and layout XML
Strong proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS/LESS
Hands-on experience with Knockout.js and RequireJS
Experience integrating frontend applications with REST APIs
Full Stack Track
Everything listed under Backend and Frontend tracks above, at a genuinely hands-on level in both, not primarily one side with light exposure to the other
Good to Have
Magento Certified Developer certification
Experience with Mirakl or other marketplace platforms
Experience on large-scale B2B e-commerce systems
Experience with headless or PWA-based Magento implementations
Prior experience in a customer-facing or forward deployed engineering role
Exposure to production deployments and cloud-based application environments
What Strong Looks Like Here
You can describe a Magento feature or module you personally built, including why it was needed and what you decided along the way, not just what the team shipped
You have debugged a real production issue on a live Magento or e-commerce platform and can walk through how you found the root cause, not just what the fix was
When integrating with an external system, you think about what happens when the integration fails, not only when it succeeds
You treat performance and reliability as part of the job, not as someone else's concern once your code merges
Who This Is Not For
Candidates who have only configured or extended a pre-built Magento theme or module without owning the underlying architecture
Candidates whose Magento experience is limited to a small storefront with no real integration or production complexity
Candidates looking for a role where requirements arrive fully specified and production issues are someone else's responsibility
