Backend Developer with DevOps

The Backend Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and operation of the platform's server-side systems and cloud infrastructure. The role is approximately 70% application engineering and 30% infrastructure and operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Design, develop, and maintain REST APIs using Node.js and TypeScript.
Design and maintain the PostgreSQL schema, including migrations, indexing, and query performance optimisation.
Develop core platform services, including authentication, payments, notifications, search, and media handling.
Manage AWS infrastructure, including compute, RDS, S3, CloudFront, IAM, networking, and cost management.
Maintain development and staging environments on Railway with sufficient parity to production that defects are identified prior to release.
Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, logging, and alerting.
Maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures, including periodic restore testing against a defined recovery time objective.
Maintain API documentation sufficient for independent integration by mobile and web engineering.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
2+ years of production backend engineering experience, including 2+ years with Node.js and TypeScript
.Demonstrated PostgreSQL proficiency, including production query performance troubleshooting
.Hands-on experience deploying, securing, and operating production workloads on AWS
.Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tooling [AWS CDK / CloudFormation]
.Experience integrating third-party services, including error handling and failure recovery
.Practical application security experience, including secrets management and remediation of dependency vulnerabilities
.Capacity to operate as the sole backend engineer for an extended period, and to identify when additional resourcing is required
