Role Description The Optometrist will provide comprehensive eye examinations, including refraction, assessment of visual acuity, and evaluation of ocular health for patients of all ages. Responsibilities include prescribing corrective lenses, identifying and managing common eye conditions, and referring patients to ophthalmologists or other specialists when necessary. The Optometrist will educate patients on eye health, preventive care, and the proper use of spectacles and contact lenses, while maintaining accurate and detailed clinical records. The role involves collaboration with other healthcare professionals to support integrated patient care and participation in patient follow-up and counseling. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Salem.
Qualifications
Relevant optometry qualification (Bachelor’s or Diploma in Optometry) and valid registration or eligibility to practice as per local regulations.
Strong clinical skills in refraction, visual acuity assessment, basic binocular vision evaluation, and detection of common ocular conditions.
Ability to prescribe and advise on lenses, frames, and contact lenses, with attention to patient comfort, safety, and lifestyle needs.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to counsel patients, explain findings clearly, and collaborate with medical and nursing teams.
Attention to detail in clinical documentation, patient history-taking, and maintenance of accurate medical records.
Commitment to ethical practice, patient confidentiality, and adherence to hospital policies and clinical protocols.
Willingness to work in a fast-paced clinical environment, manage multiple appointments, and adapt to changing patient needs.
Prior experience in a hospital or eye care clinic is an advantage; familiarity with basic diagnostic equipment (e.g., retinoscope, slit lamp, autorefractor) is preferred.
