Director of Portfolio Management

Role Description The Director of Portfolio Management is a full-time, remote role responsible for overseeing the organization’s portfolio of programs and projects to ensure strategic alignment, financial performance, and effective resource allocation. This role manages the end-to-end project portfolio lifecycle, including intake, prioritization, approval, monitoring, and reporting on outcomes and risks. The Director collaborates with senior leadership to define portfolio strategy, sets standards and methodologies for portfolio governance, and provides guidance to program and project managers to support successful delivery. Daily activities include analyzing portfolio performance data, preparing executive dashboards and recommendations, facilitating cross-functional decision-making, and driving continuous improvement in portfolio processes and tools.
Qualifications
Strong analytical skills to evaluate portfolio performance, assess risks, and support data-driven decision-making.
Program management experience, including oversight of interdependent projects and coordination across cross-functional teams.
Finance expertise to manage budgets, forecast portfolio costs and benefits, and support investment decisions.
Project portfolio management capabilities, including prioritization, resource allocation, and benefits realization tracking.
Portfolio management experience applying governance frameworks, standards, and tools to complex initiatives.
Proficiency with portfolio management software and reporting tools, and familiarity with project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, hybrid).
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at executive levels.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Management, or a related field; advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, PfMP, PgMP) are beneficial.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a remote environment, managing distributed teams and collaborating across time zones.
