Role Description The Group Health Underwriting role is a full-time, on-site position based in New Delhi. The individual in this role will assess and evaluate group health insurance proposals, analyze risk profiles, and determine appropriate coverage terms, premium rates, and policy conditions in line with company guidelines and regulatory requirements. Day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing client data and claims experience, preparing technical underwriting notes, coordinating with sales and distribution teams on quotations, and ensuring timely issuance of policies and endorsements. The role also involves monitoring portfolio performance, supporting renewal negotiations, collaborating with actuarial and product teams on pricing and benefits structures, and maintaining accurate documentation and MIS for internal and regulatory reporting. The Group Health Underwriter will work closely with operations, claims, and customer service to help maintain a sustainable, customer-centric group health portfolio.
Qualifications
Strong analytical and risk assessment skills, including the ability to interpret healthcare data, claims experience, and demographic information for group health portfolios.
Solid understanding of health insurance products, underwriting principles, IRDAI regulations, and group benefits structures within the Indian insurance market.
Proficiency in working with spreadsheets and underwriting tools, with comfort in using Excel and other data analysis software for pricing and portfolio monitoring.
Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with sales, operations, claims, actuarial, and product teams, and to convey underwriting decisions clearly to stakeholders.
Detail-oriented approach with strong documentation, policy issuance, and compliance focus to ensure accurate records and adherence to internal and external guidelines.
Bachelor’s degree in insurance, finance, actuarial science, business, or a related field; professional certifications in insurance or health underwriting are an advantage.
Prior experience in group health underwriting or health insurance operations is highly desirable; exposure to corporate clients or large-group business is a plus.
