Somebody who's been practising for 19 years is sitting across from you holding a letter they've read four times, and the sentence they keep going back to is the one with their own name in it.
That's professional liability defence.
Your client is usually good at their job and had one bad week, and it isn't the money keeping them up at night. It's the thought of people they've known for twenty years hearing about it.
A fair bit of the job is getting them calm enough to help you. Then there's the file, with the engagement letter nobody read and the email chain where the advice changes somewhere around message four, and a standard of care argument about what a reasonable practitioner would have done on a Thursday afternoon in 2021 with a client ringing every ten minutes.
They're hiring two at once, they're flexible about how much experience you bring, and the pay runs from $140,000 to $195,000 depending on it. It's fully remote, anywhere in California.

What you'll be doing:
• Defending attorneys, accountants, brokers and other professionals in state and federal court
• Standard of care and causation, which is where most of these get fought
• Written discovery, motions and depositions
• Keeping carriers updated as the file moves and the numbers change
What you'll have:
• Civil defence litigation experience, ideally professional liability or something close
• Patience with a client who's frightened and also an expert in the thing you're arguing about
• Admitted to the California Bar
