The Role
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Innovation Manager to lead engineering innovation strategy, technology scouting, concept development, technical experimentation, prototyping, engineering transformation, and commercialization of new solutions.
The ideal candidate will identify emerging technologies, evaluate engineering opportunities, lead cross-functional innovation programs, develop technical concepts and prototypes, establish business cases, and support the transition of successful innovations into scalable products, processes, and operational applications.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement engineering innovation strategies aligned with organizational objectives and technology roadmaps.
Establish innovation priorities based on business needs, customer requirements, engineering challenges, market trends, and emerging technologies.
Build and maintain engineering technology roadmaps covering near-, medium-, and long-term innovation opportunities.
Identify opportunities to improve products, engineering processes, manufacturing methods, systems, materials, equipment, and operational performance.
Monitor emerging engineering technologies, scientific developments, patents, industry trends, research, and competitive innovations.
Conduct technology scouting and evaluate emerging technologies for technical feasibility and business relevance.
Establish structured processes for capturing, screening, evaluating, and prioritizing engineering innovation ideas.
Develop innovation pipelines covering concepts, experiments, prototypes, pilots, and implementation programs.
Lead cross-functional engineering innovation projects from initial concept through validation and deployment.
Define technical objectives, requirements, milestones, resources, risks, and success criteria for innovation initiatives.
Coordinate feasibility studies, proof-of-concept activities, prototypes, demonstrations, simulations, and pilot programs.
Work with Engineering, R&D, Product, Manufacturing, Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to evaluate innovation opportunities.
Translate business and customer challenges into engineering problems and potential technology solutions.
Develop technical concepts, system architectures, engineering approaches, and alternative solution options.
Evaluate new materials, components, manufacturing technologies, automation solutions, software, sensors, electronics, robotics, and digital technologies.
Assess the technical maturity, scalability, reliability, maintainability, and integration requirements of emerging technologies.
Evaluate Technology Readiness Levels and define development activities required to move promising technologies toward deployment.
Establish proof-of-concept and prototype development methodologies.
Coordinate laboratory experiments, engineering trials, simulations, field testing, and technical demonstrations.
Define test plans, validation criteria, performance targets, and acceptance requirements for innovation projects.
Analyze experimental and prototype data to determine technical performance and improvement opportunities.
Lead design reviews, technical assessments, prototype evaluations, and innovation-gate reviews.
Establish structured stage-gate processes for engineering innovation investments and development decisions.
Develop technical and commercial business cases for proposed engineering innovations.
Quantify potential benefits including productivity, cost reduction, quality improvement, reliability, energy efficiency, sustainability, capacity, safety, and customer value.
Evaluate capital requirements, development costs, operating costs, implementation risks, and expected financial benefits.
Conduct return-on-investment, total-cost-of-ownership, lifecycle-cost, and scenario analyses where applicable.
Support management decisions regarding technology adoption, pilot funding, scale-up, and commercialization.
Identify opportunities to automate engineering workflows and improve engineering productivity through digital technologies.
Explore applications of artificial intelligence, machine learning, generative AI, digital twins, simulation, computer vision, robotics, advanced analytics, and connected engineering systems.
Evaluate engineering software, simulation tools, digital platforms, cloud technologies, and data-driven development environments.
Promote model-based engineering, digital engineering, virtual prototyping, and simulation-driven design where appropriate.
Identify opportunities to improve engineering design cycles, testing processes, documentation, configuration management, and technical collaboration.
Support development of standardized innovation methodologies, engineering tools, technical standards, and best practices.
Coordinate intellectual-property reviews and work with Legal or IP teams on patentability, licensing, technology ownership, and freedom-to-operate considerations.
Maintain appropriate confidentiality and information controls for proprietary technologies, designs, research, and innovation projects.
Collaborate with universities, research institutes, laboratories, startups, technology companies, suppliers, consultants, and other external innovation partners.
Establish external technology partnerships, research collaborations, pilot programs, and joint development opportunities.
Evaluate technology vendors, startups, engineering service providers, and research partners.
Define technical requirements, evaluation criteria, deliverables, milestones, and performance expectations for external partners.
Manage innovation project budgets, resources, schedules, technical risks, and dependencies.
Identify barriers to implementation and develop mitigation strategies for technical, operational, commercial, regulatory, and supply-chain risks.
Coordinate engineering change processes associated with validated innovations.
Support design transfer, manufacturing integration, production readiness, and operational deployment of successful innovations.

Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate should have strong experience in engineering innovation, research and development, technology development, product engineering, advanced engineering, engineering transformation, or technology commercialization, preferably within technology, manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, electronics, energy, industrial equipment, construction, or other engineering-intensive environments.
The candidate should demonstrate:
