Senior Platform Engineer

Pi Health is building an automation-first culture that enables engineering teams to move fast, operate safely, and own their services end-to-end. As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will address operational and infrastructure challenges through software engineering, replacing repetitive manual tasks with clean, scalable automation and self-service capabilities that enhance the developer experience. You will take ownership of foundation-layer infrastructure across core application software, identity management, cloud automation, and observability — partnering with engineering squads to reduce friction, improve system resilience, and establish consistent security patterns across the technical ecosystem. A core focus of this role is improving the developer experience through self-service platforms, paved-road solutions, and automation that enables engineering teams to move quickly with confidence.
Essential Functions of the job:
· Architect Foundation Systems: Design, build, and maintain self-service APIs, developer tools, and automated delivery pipelines that streamline the software development lifecycle.
· Own Foundational Identity & Security: Operate and enhance Identity Provider (IdP) systems, implementing zero-trust principles, Authn/Authz frameworks, and security guardrails within CI/CD workflows.
· Drive Observability & Telemetry: Maintain enterprise-grade observability infrastructure using OpenTelemetry, VictoriaMetrics, and Grafana to provide teams with visibility into service health and performance.
· Automate Cloud Infrastructure: Codify cloud architecture across AWS services using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices to deliver repeatable, fault-tolerant environments.
· Elevate Core Codebases & Culture: Contribute directly to application codebases across product domains while supporting engineering teams on operational standards and service reliability.
· Ensure Operational Excellence: Participate in an on-call rotation for platform capabilities, supporting a “you build it, you run it” operational model.
Qualifications:
Years of Experience: 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 3+ years focused on platform engineering, infrastructure automation, or distributed systems.
Software Engineering Depth: Strong proficiency in Python is required, with experience developing and operating production software. Familiarity with Go and/or Rust is beneficial but not required. Comfortable making direct contributions across core codebases and building automation, developer tooling, and platform services.
Automation & Systems Mindset: Demonstrated practice of reducing manual toil through software, automation, and self-service capabilities.
Cloud & Infrastructure Expertise: Hands-on experience orchestrating AWS core infrastructure (ECS, EKS, ALB, Aurora) and codifying systems using Terraform or OpenTofu.
Identity & Access Management: Experience operating foundational identity systems and IdPs, including OAuth2, OIDC, SAML, RBAC, ABAC, and zero-trust IAM architectures.
Observability & Telemetry: Practical experience with multi-tenant observability frameworks using OpenTelemetry, VictoriaMetrics (or Prometheus/Thanos), and Grafana.
Distributed Systems Design: Experience designing and operating fault-tolerant, multi-tenant distributed systems with compliance controls.
Collaborative Experience: Clear cross-functional communication skills, a team-oriented operational mindset, and readiness to participate in an on-call rotation.
Computer/Technology Skills:
Languages & Runtimes: Python (required), Go, Rust. Cloud & IaC: AWS (ECS, EKS, ALB, Aurora), Terraform, OpenTofu. Identity & Security: OAuth2, OIDC, SAML, RBAC, ABAC, zero-trust IAM. Observability: OpenTelemetry, VictoriaMetrics (or Prometheus/Thanos), Grafana. CI/CD and version control tooling.
Travel: Minimal; occasional travel may be required for team offsites or on-site collaboration.
