The Role
We are seeking an experienced Broadcast Engineering Manager to lead broadcast engineering strategy, infrastructure, systems integration, technical operations, reliability, and continuous improvement across broadcast and media environments.
The ideal candidate will oversee the design, deployment, operation, maintenance, and optimization of broadcast systems while ensuring high availability, technical quality, operational resilience, and alignment with evolving media technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement broadcast engineering strategies aligned with organizational, technical, and content-delivery objectives.
Lead the engineering lifecycle for broadcast infrastructure, systems, equipment, platforms, and technical facilities.
Manage broadcast engineering teams responsible for system design, integration, operations, maintenance, and technical support.
Oversee studios, control rooms, master control, production galleries, transmission facilities, and technical operations environments.
Manage broadcast systems including cameras, vision systems, production switchers, routing systems, replay systems, graphics, automation, monitoring, and recording platforms.
Oversee professional audio systems including consoles, intercoms, microphones, processing, monitoring, and audio distribution.
Manage television playout, channel origination, scheduling, content management, and transmission workflows.
Oversee satellite, fiber, microwave, IP, terrestrial, and other contribution and distribution technologies.
Develop and maintain broadcast system architectures, technical standards, engineering specifications, and infrastructure roadmaps.
Lead the transition from traditional SDI-based environments toward IP-based and hybrid broadcast architectures where appropriate.
Evaluate SMPTE, AES, ST 2110, NDI, AES67, NMOS, and other relevant media-technology standards and interoperability requirements.
Coordinate broadcast integration with IT networks, data centers, cloud platforms, storage systems, and enterprise technology environments.
Manage media asset management, newsroom systems, content-management platforms, and broadcast automation interfaces.
Ensure reliable connectivity between production, post-production, playout, distribution, and digital media environments.
Lead technical design reviews, system architecture reviews, factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, commissioning, and go-live activities.
Develop engineering test plans and ensure systems meet functional, performance, interoperability, and reliability requirements.
Coordinate system installation, configuration, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and operational handover.
Establish preventive and corrective maintenance programs for broadcast infrastructure and critical equipment.
Monitor system availability, equipment health, technical performance, failures, alarms, and recurring operational issues.
Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for major technical incidents and service interruptions.
Establish technical escalation procedures and ensure timely resolution of critical broadcast issues.
Develop disaster-recovery, business-continuity, redundancy, and failover strategies for critical broadcast services.
Conduct resilience testing and recovery exercises for broadcast and media infrastructure.
Ensure appropriate redundancy across power, networking, storage, transmission, playout, communications, and critical broadcast systems.
Coordinate with Operations and Production teams to ensure engineering services support live events, scheduled programming, breaking coverage, and high-profile productions.
Support outside broadcasts, remote production, live events, and temporary broadcast facilities.
Coordinate technical requirements for venues, studios, production sites, satellite facilities, and remote locations.
Develop technical standards for broadcast workflows, equipment selection, system configuration, and operational practices.
Manage broadcast equipment lifecycle, including planning, procurement, installation, upgrades, replacement, and decommissioning.
Develop capital-investment proposals and business cases for broadcast infrastructure and technology modernization.
Evaluate new broadcast technologies, vendors, systems, and platforms based on technical capability, reliability, scalability, and cost.
Manage broadcast technology vendors, system integrators, manufacturers, consultants, and service providers.
Define technical requirements, service levels, warranties, support models, and performance expectations for suppliers.
Monitor vendor performance, technical support, maintenance response, project delivery, and contract compliance.
Manage broadcast engineering budgets, capital expenditure, operating expenditure, and resource requirements.
Coordinate procurement activities for broadcast equipment, software, services, spares, and technical infrastructure.
Maintain accurate technical documentation, system diagrams, equipment inventories, configuration records, and maintenance documentation.
Establish configuration-management and change-control processes for critical broadcast systems.
Ensure engineering changes are properly assessed, tested, documented, approved, and implemented.
Coordinate with cybersecurity teams to protect broadcast infrastructure, production systems, control networks, and media platforms.
Implement appropriate access controls, network segmentation, monitoring, patching, backup, and security practices for broadcast environments.
Support cybersecurity assessments and remediation of technical vulnerabilities affecting broadcast systems.
Monitor emerging technologies including cloud production, remote production, virtualized broadcast infrastructure, software-defined media, AI, automation, IP workflows, and edge computing.
Assess opportunities to improve broadcast efficiency through automation, orchestration, virtualization, artificial intelligence, and cloud technologies.
Lead engineering initiatives to improve system reliability, operational efficiency, content quality, and scalability.
Develop engineering training programs and technical competency frameworks for broadcast engineers and technical operators.
Provide technical guidance, coaching, and performance support to engineering teams.
Establish engineering procedures for incident management, maintenance, escalation, commissioning, and emergency response.
Ensure broadcast facilities and systems comply with applicable technical, safety, regulatory, and industry requirements.
Maintain relationships with industry organizations, technology providers, technical specialists, and professional networks.
Prepare regular management reports covering system availability, incidents, projects, costs, risks, technology initiatives, and performance improvements.
