Role Description This is a part-time, remote role. The team member will conduct open-source research on Indo-Pacific security issues, with a focus on Chinese-language materials, including government documents, media, academic publications, and policy reports. Daily tasks include collecting, organizing, and analyzing data; drafting research briefs, memos, and reports; and contributing to longer-form publications and policy papers. The role also involves fact-checking, source verification, and summarizing complex information for non-specialist audiences. The team member may assist with presentations, public outreach materials, and internal project coordination to support IIPS’s research agenda.
Qualifications
Strong research and analytical abilities, including experience with open-source research and policy analysis.
Proficiency in English writing, editing, and the ability to produce clear, concise research summaries and reports.
Knowledge of international relations, security studies, or related fields, especially concerning the Indo-Pacific and U.S.–China relations.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines for multiple projects.
Relevant academic background (e.g., political science, international relations, area studies, security studies, or related disciplines); advanced degree or progress toward one is an asset.
Familiarity with think tank, academic, or policy research environments and a strong interest in non-profit, mission-driven work.
Excellent communication skills and comfort collaborating virtually with a diverse, multidisciplinary team.
