About the Role
Figma is seeking an AI Applied Scientist with a strong background in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to develop advanced AI technologies and improve Figma products. The role combines fundamental research with applied AI/ML development, including Generative AI, model training, evaluation, and AI-powered product features.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct fundamental and applied AI research to develop advanced models for Figma's products.
Build Generative AI models using techniques such as SFT, Reinforcement Learning, prompt optimization, and synthetic data generation.
Collaborate with product and infrastructure engineers to develop AI-powered features.
Work with product managers and engineers to translate user feedback into AI system requirements.
Build evaluation systems to measure and improve AI feature quality.
Contribute to large-scale AI training and distributed AI systems where applicable.
Required Qualifications
4+ years of experience in Generative AI.
6+ years of experience in Machine Learning, NLP/NLU, or Computer Vision.
Strong experience building and fine-tuning Generative AI features in production.
Experience with PyTorch, JAX, Hugging Face, or similar frameworks.
Experience with LLM reinforcement learning techniques such as DPO, PPO, GRPO, or DAPO.
5+ years of programming experience with Python, C++, Java, R, or similar languages.
Strong software engineering and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience developing multi-year AI/ML roadmaps.
Experience mentoring or influencing senior engineers.
Experience with large-scale and distributed AI training.
Experience with reinforcement learning from execution feedback and non-verifiable rewards.
Compensation & Benefits
Figma offers a base salary range of $149,000–$350,000 USD for its San Francisco and New York hub locations. Remote compensation may be localized based on work location.
