About the Role
Netflix is seeking a PhD intern to join its AI Platform team and work on infrastructure powering large-scale Machine Learning and AI systems. The role focuses on the intersection of systems and ML, including training infrastructure, post-training systems, GPU-optimized inference, serving, and model-system co-design.
Key Responsibilities
Work on large-scale ML and AI infrastructure at Netflix.
Contribute to distributed training and serving infrastructure.
Develop and optimize ML training, post-training, and offline infrastructure.
Improve GPU-optimized inference and model serving systems.
Explore model-system co-design approaches for AI platforms.
Solve open-ended infrastructure challenges in collaboration with ML and systems teams.
Required Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Distributed Systems, Systems, Networking, Machine Learning, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Research or applied experience in distributed systems, ML infrastructure, distributed training/serving, inference optimization, or model-system co-design.
Proficiency in Python.
Familiarity with distributed computing frameworks such as Ray, Kubernetes, or Spark.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Curious, self-motivated, and comfortable solving open-ended technical problems.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Go, C++, or Rust.
Publications or research aligned with systems or applied ML venues.
Previous industry or internship experience in ML infrastructure.
Experience with large-scale ML training or serving systems.
Internship Details
Minimum 12-week paid internship.
Expected start date: January 2027.
Candidates are expected to return to school for at least one semester or quarter after the internship.
Remote candidates may be considered for this team.

Compensation & Benefits
Netflix lists an internship market range of USD $40–$85 per hour, with compensation varying based on location, skills, experience, and other factors.
