About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
Visual Outlet is seeking an experienced video editor to join our team throughout an especially busy season. We create documentary-style Impact Story videos for nonprofits. Review the job posting below and submit an application if you think you’d be a good fit!
Company: Visual Outlet
Location: Remote
Engagement: Fixed-term contract
Anticipated timeframe: November 1st, 2026 through January 31st, 2027
Compensation: $4,500–$5,500 per month for the three-month engagement, based on experience, portfolio quality, and reserved capacity
The Role
This role is for an editor with strong storytelling instincts. You should be comfortable reviewing interviews, transcripts, and story outlines; identifying compelling soundbites; and independently shaping that material into clear, emotionally engaging narratives.
Our typical project package may include:
One 2–3 minute flagship story
Three to four 30–90 second supporting vignettes
These deliverables are generally developed together as one cohesive package.
You can expect roughly 4-5 projects per month, although they won't all include the full scope listed above. On some projects, you may receive a very specific paper edit to follow, while on others you may receive a broader video outline that will require some editorial judgment to select the best soundbites.
You will remotely access one of our editing workstations, where you'll use Premiere Pro and have access to our various asset library subscriptions.
This is a fast-moving engagement, and you should be comfortable moving projects from initial handoff through polished drafts within several business days. You won’t be expected to work a set daily schedule, but we do need consistent progress, reliable communication, and responsiveness throughout the week.
We’re a small, collaborative team, so we’re looking for someone who is easy to work with, open to feedback, and comfortable asking questions when something isn’t clear. We care a lot about the quality of the work, but we also want working together to feel positive and enjoyable.
Responsibilities
Build clear, compelling stories from interviews, transcripts, footage, and provided narrative outlines or paper edits
Independently identify and select strong soundbites
Add B-roll, music, natural sound, lower thirds, graphics, captions, and other visual elements
Complete color correction, audio refinement, and final technical preparation
Incorporate consolidated internal and client feedback efficiently
Maintain organized project files, sequences, versions, and exports
Manage multiple active projects and shift priorities as deadlines evolve
Communicate proactively about progress, questions, asset gaps, or potential delays
Work through a remote editing workstation and shared-storage workflow
Qualifications
Demonstrated professional video-editing experience
A strong portfolio of interview-driven, documentary, testimonial, nonprofit, branded-storytelling, or human-centered work
Strong instincts for narrative structure, emotional pacing, music, sound design, and visual storytelling
Ability to turn raw or loosely structured interview material into a cohesive story
Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro
Working knowledge of color correction, audio mixing, captions, and basic motion graphics
Ability to work quickly without sacrificing editorial judgment or polish
Excellent organization, communication, and version-management habits
Comfort working from transcripts and narrative outlines while making independent editorial decisions
Reliable internet access sufficient for remote-workstation editing
Experience with nonprofit storytelling, Impact Stories, fundraising videos, or mission-driven organizations is a plus.
To Apply
Please submit:
Your resume or a brief summary of your professional experience
Two or three complete interview-driven videos for which you personally handled the editing and story construction
A short explanation of what you received for each sample. For example, whether you received a completed paper edit, story outline, transcript, or just raw interviews.
Confirmation that you can reserve near-full-time capacity from November 1st to January 31st
Your preferred monthly compensation within or near the listed range
Please submit complete narrative pieces rather than a montage reel. We are specifically evaluating story construction, soundbite selection, pacing, visual judgment, and overall editorial polish.
Finalists may be offered paid project work in October so that both sides can get a feel for working together before committing to the larger November through January engagement.
