NorCast Consulting provides hyper-local weather forecasts for a wide variety of industries, including snow & ice management, energy, landscaping, construction, and public works. Our mission is to help clients save time, money, and resources through actionable, accurate weather forecast information.
We’re searching for a motivated, passionate weather expert to join our meteorology team. If you love operational forecasting, enjoy communicating weather risks, and want to work with a collaborative team, this is the role for you.
Responsibilities
Analyze satellite, radar, observations, and numerical weather prediction model data to create accurate weather forecasts.
Comfortable using Microsoft Office 365 Suite
Provide prompt forecast consulting support: respond to client calls, emails, texts, and messages.
Communicate operational impacts in forecasts and advise clients on risk management probabilities.
Use Baron Graphics System to create graphical forecast products.
Collaborate with team members to best serve clients’ needs.
Stay informed about the industries we serve and participate in internal training.
Deliver exceptional customer service and contribute to team innovation.
*Lake effect snow experience and willing to work overnight hours and weekends is needed.*
Skills & Attributes
Deep love of weather and curiosity for atmospheric patterns.
Experience in various weather forecasting types, including lake effect snow, severe storms, synoptic rain, ice and snow, and other local conditions.
Technologically adept: able to use weather model sites, Gibson Ridge Radar products, Microsoft Office suite, WordPress, and graphics systems.
Strong time management skills—forecasts are often time-sensitive.
Multi-tasking
Willingness to take the initiative, learn new things and contribute beyond comfort zones.
Ability to brief colleagues on weather situations and collaborate effectively.
Flexibility to work overnights, weekends, and holidays if/as needed as weather events dictate.
Optional: social media or weather blog writing experience is a bonus.
Bonus Skills (Not Required):
Experience with Baron Lynx or weather graphic systems.
Experience in creating short forecast videos or weather explainer content.
Experience with GIS-based tools, NWS APIs, or atmospheric data wrangling.
Writing or blogging experience.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or certificate in meteorology or related field.
2+ years operational weather forecasting experience (particularly winter weather forecasting).
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Good communication skills.
Ability to acquire knowledge about clients, industries, and key products/services.
Prior experience providing actionable forecasts for business or operational decisions is a plus.
