Product Management Intern — UI/UX & Design Systems | Unpaid | Remote

Sports Excitement is a global sports community platform designed to connect athletes, families, and fans in a single interactive space. The platform will work like a social network tailored specifically to sports, helping parents easily register children for teams and leagues while enabling users to follow their favorite sports, teams, and athletes. Sports Excitement will be free to download, with revenue generated through advertisements and premium features that help users expand their sports networks. The upcoming website launch will give early access to features and content as the community grows. By filling a unique niche in the sports industry, Sports Excitement aims to become the go-to destination for discovering sports opportunities and sharing a passion for athletics.
Internship Overview
The Product Management Internship — UI/UX & Design Systems at Sports Excitement is a remote, unpaid, three-month learning opportunity designed for individuals interested in gaining practical exposure to product management in a sports technology environment.
Interns will work with a designated supervisor and collaborate with product, design, and development team members on supervised projects involving customer discovery, UI/UX collaboration, product requirements, user flows, product analytics, and Agile development practices.
The internship is intended to provide participants with hands-on experience across different stages of the product lifecycle, while helping them strengthen skills in product thinking, documentation, research, analytics, communication, and cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities & Learning Opportunities
Participate in user research and customer discovery activities, including user interviews, note-taking, and organizing qualitative feedback.
Assist with synthesizing research findings into user needs, customer problem statements, user personas, and product insights.
Support the creation and refinement of Product Requirement Documents (PRDs), user stories, and acceptance criteria.
Gain experience writing structured acceptance criteria using formats such as Given-When-Then when appropriate.
Collaborate with UX and product design team members to review wireframes, user flows, and interactive prototypes.
Support usability reviews and help identify opportunities to improve clarity, accessibility, navigation, and overall user experience.
Gain exposure to design systems and help document or organize reusable UI patterns, components, and product design standards where applicable.
Assist with mapping onboarding flows, user funnels, and other product journeys.
Support the review and organization of basic product metrics, including engagement, retention, and user behavior data.
Gain exposure to experimentation concepts such as A/B testing and hypothesis-driven product development.
Participate in Agile team activities such as sprint planning, standups, reviews, and retrospectives.
Collaborate with product, design, engineering, and other team members while receiving feedback and guidance throughout the internship.
Document product decisions, requirements, assumptions, user insights, and relevant trade-offs.
Qualifications
Foundational understanding of product management, UI/UX, user-centered design, customer discovery, or Agile software development.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in understanding user needs and identifying root causes.
Ability to organize information and communicate ideas clearly in written and verbal formats.
Interest in learning how to write product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and product documentation.
Basic understanding of user journeys, wireframes, prototypes, or digital product experiences.
Strong attention to detail, organization, time management, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote, cross-functional environment.
Relevant coursework, training, personal projects, portfolio work, volunteer experience, or other practical experience in Product Management, Business, Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, UX/UI Design, Data Analytics, or a related field is welcomed.
Interest in sports, technology, digital communities, or consumer-facing platforms is a plus.
Preferred Tools & Experience
Experience with the following is helpful but not required:
Figma or similar design and prototyping tools
Notion, Jira, Confluence, or similar product/project documentation tools
Basic analytics or product analytics platforms
Agile or Scrum workflows
User research or usability testing
Product requirement documentation
Design systems or component libraries
Academic, personal, volunteer, and non-commercial project experience is welcome.
Academic Credit & School Verification
Academic credit may be available depending on the requirements and approval of the intern’s college or university. Candidates are responsible for confirming eligibility and academic-credit requirements directly with their educational institution.
Sports Excitement can support reasonable internship verification requirements from participating educational institutions. Depending on the school’s requirements, this may include confirmation of company information, internship dates, expected weekly hours, supervisor information, internship responsibilities, and verification of participation by email or other required documentation.
Any academic credit is awarded solely by the intern’s educational institution and is not guaranteed by Sports Excitement.
Internship Structure
This internship is expected to last approximately three months, with a commitment of approximately 20 hours per week.
Interns will have an assigned supervisor and will participate remotely. Scheduling and internship responsibilities may be coordinated with the intern and supervisor based on project needs and, when applicable, academic requirements.
