Fullstack Engineer

We're looking for a Backend / Full-Stack Engineer who thinks like a product owner. You won't just write code; you'll own problems end-to-end: understand the user need, design the system, ship to production, and iterate based on real-world feedback. You should be someone who has shipped real products that real people use, not just features in isolation. You leverage AI tools and workflows to move fast without cutting corners on quality.
Responsibilities:
Own features end-to-end from problem discovery and system design through implementation, deployment, and production monitoring.
Design and build scalable backend services (APIs, event-driven systems, data pipelines) that power access control for thousands of buildings.
Collaborate directly with product, hardware, and customer-facing teams to translate user pain into elegant technical solutions.
Make pragmatic architecture decisions, choose the right tool for the job, manage trade-offs, and document your reasoning.
Use AI-assisted development workflows (Copilot, Claude, etc. ) to accelerate shipping velocity while maintaining high code quality.
Improve system reliability, observability, and performance you care about what happens after code is merged.
Mentor teammates through code reviews, design discussions, and a culture of continuous learning.
Requirements:
5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong backend or full-stack focus.
Product mindset: You think in terms of user outcomes, not just tickets. You ask 'why' before 'how' and proactively identify what to build next.
Systems design chops: You can whiteboard a distributed system, reason about consistency vs. availability, and design APIs that last.
End-to-end shipping experience: You've taken products from zero to production, including the messy parts like migrations, rollouts, and on-call debugging.
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking: You break down ambiguous problems, evaluate multiple approaches, and make well-reasoned decisions under uncertainty.
AI-augmented development: You actively use AI coding tools and LLM-powered workflows to increase your throughput and quality. You understand where AI helps and where it doesn't.
Proficiency in Python, Go, or Node.js/TypeScript (we primarily use Python and TypeScript).
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP), containers, and CI/CD.
Excellent communication: You can explain complex technical decisions to both engineers and non-engineers clearly and concisely.
Nice to Have:
Experience with IoT, embedded systems, or hardware-software integration.
Background in access control, security, or proptech industries.
Experience building and deploying ML/AI features in production.
Contributions to open-source projects or technical writing.
Startup experience; you thrive in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
