H27 Technologies is currently building LinnESync, a verified-readiness platform for emergency response. Today, state and local emergency managers still coordinate the non-governmental universe of NGOs, volunteer organizations, private vendors, and community volunteers with spreadsheets, whiteboards, and sticky notes.
The Role
This role is our first in-house engineering hire. Partner teams have delivered our engineering to date. As we move toward pilot and beyond, we are bringing engineering leadership in-house to own the platform, the architecture, and the intellectual property going forward.
You will take ownership of LinnESync from our current partner engineering team through a structured handoff, then set the technical direction from there. This role suits someone who wants to shape the vision and build it. We are a two-person company today, so you will move fluidly between high-level architecture and strategy and hands-on, ship-it-this-week engineering. You will set the technical direction, make the calls, and do the work to get it done.
What You Will Do
Own the end-to-end technical architecture of LinnESync across web, mobile, and backend.
Lead a structured handoff from our outsourced engineering team, taking full ownership of the codebase, infrastructure, and delivery pipeline while keeping momentum.
Stay hands-on: design, write, and review production code across the stack.
Set the technical direction and standards for our development partners (nearshore backend, frontend and design, mobile), and direct their day-to-day work.
Own technical delivery: turn product requirements into reliable, shippable software on the timeline our first pilot demands.
Own the reliability, performance, and security of a mission-critical system that runs offline first, updates in real time, and supports people during emergencies.
Own the technical implementation of TX-RAMP/GovRAMP security controls (NIST 800-53, RMF, STIG) and day-to-day security operations. Our COO runs the compliance program; you build and operate the controls that pass the audit.
Establish pragmatic engineering practices, right-sized for an early-stage team: API-first design (OpenAPI), CI/CD, infrastructure as code, testing, and code review.
Partner directly with the founder, and with our incoming product lead, on strategy, trade-offs, and what we can realistically build.
Lay the technical foundation for what comes next: deeper GIS, a data-aggregation layer for external feeds such as weather, sensors, and remote sensing, an AI layer, and the path to government security compliance.
Your First 6 to 12 Months
Months 1 to 2: Absorb the handoff. Take full ownership of the architecture, repositories, infrastructure, and delivery pipeline.
Months 3 to 6: Carry the MVP through our first set of pilots. Stabilize and harden the platform for real users in the field.
Months 6 to 12: Stand up the go-forward engineering function and stack, and begin the foundation for the data and AI capabilities on our roadmap.
What We Are Looking For
Minimum Qualifications
6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including owning systems in production.
Deep engineering fundamentals. You reason about systems from first principles and design architecture independently.
Full-stack depth, from the application down to the infrastructure beneath it: API deployment tuned for low response times, content distribution, optimized single-page-app delivery, database schema design and optimization, OpenAPI 3.x, infrastructure monitoring, automated end-to-end testing, and GitHub-based CI/CD.
2+ years with infrastructure as code on AWS, ideally SST or AWS CDK.
Hands-on command of our current stack: TypeScript 5.x, Vite, React 19.x, AJV, PostgreSQL, AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, CloudFront), SST 4.x (Pulumi), and Playwright 1.x.
Proven ability to design, implement, and maintain AI-driven software development across the team: a shared AI tooling and IDE environment, a context strategy that turns real-world requirements into AI-consumable context, and AI-assisted CI/CD such as automated code review.
Experience leading and managing commercial software development, directing external or vendor teams, or both.
A track record of shipping reliable, secure software, with a strong ownership mentality.
Comfort in an early-stage, low-structure environment. You balance vision and strategy with hands-on execution, and ambiguity energizes you.
Legal authorization to work in the United States. We are not sponsoring visas at this time.
Preferred Qualifications
React Native (mobile).
Offline-first, real-time, or distributed systems experience.
GIS and mapping experience (HERE, Esri, ArcGIS, or similar).
Exposure to government or public-sector compliance (FedRAMP, GovRAMP, TX-RAMP, or SOC 2).
Data engineering (ingestion and streaming) or AI and ML (RAG, agentic systems), for our future data and AI layer.
Domain experience in public safety, emergency management, GovTech, or another mission-critical field.
Prior experience as an engineer in an early stage startup setting.

Pay Transparency. The base salary range for this role is $175k to $225k depending on qualifications, in addition to equity and the benefits described above. This range is a good-faith estimate; actual compensation will depend on experience, skills, and other job-related factors.
