SOC Engineer

Cybersenz Inc. is seeking a motivated and technically strong SOC Engineer to join our security operations team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys troubleshooting complex technical issues, investigating security events, and working across both Linux and Windows environments.
The SOC Engineer will help monitor, investigate, troubleshoot, and respond to security and infrastructure events while working closely with other members of the security and IT teams. The ideal candidate has strong fundamentals in operating systems, networking, and cybersecurity, along with a methodical approach to problem solving.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor and investigate security alerts, system events, and potential security incidents.
Troubleshoot issues across Linux and Windows operating systems, including system services, networking, authentication, processes, logs, and performance.
Analyze system and security logs to identify anomalies, errors, and potential threats.
Assist with incident investigation, containment, remediation, and documentation.
Troubleshoot network connectivity and security-related issues across endpoints, servers, and network infrastructure.
Work with security tools such as SIEM, EDR/XDR, vulnerability scanners, firewalls, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
Escalate and communicate security incidents appropriately based on severity and impact.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, troubleshooting procedures, and incident response playbooks.
Collaborate with IT, networking, and engineering teams to resolve security and infrastructure issues.
Participate in vulnerability management, system hardening, and security improvement initiatives.
Continuously research emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security technologies.
Required Qualifications
Hands-on experience troubleshooting Linux and Windows systems.
Strong understanding of operating-system fundamentals, networking, and common enterprise infrastructure.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to systematically diagnose technical problems.
Understanding of core cybersecurity concepts, including authentication, access control, endpoint security, network security, and incident response.
Familiarity with TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP/HTTPS, VPNs, firewalls, and common network troubleshooting techniques.
Ability to analyze logs and identify abnormal system or network behavior.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a security operations team.
Preferred Qualifications
CCNA certification or equivalent networking knowledge.
Previous experience working in a SOC or security operations environment.
Security certifications such as Security+, CySA+, SSCP, or equivalent.
Experience with SIEM platforms such as Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel, Elastic, or similar technologies.
Experience with EDR/XDR platforms.
Familiarity with vulnerability management and security scanning tools.
Basic scripting or automation experience with PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, Windows Server, and enterprise Linux.
Experience with cloud security platforms such as AWS or Azure.

You should be comfortable digging into logs, running command-line troubleshooting tools, asking the right questions, and following an issue through to resolution. A strong foundation and willingness to learn are highly valued.
