Senior Product Designer

ABOUT KOPPER
Kopper is a senior design studio. We put designers and design engineers inside our clients' teams, working as an extension of the in-house team. Our clients are early and growth stage companies building technical, data-heavy products; many have gone on to raise $100M+ rounds.
We're building out our bench of senior product designers. When a client needs some extra firepower, we introduce a designer we already know and trust. That's where you come in.
ABOUT THE ROLE
You'd join a short roster of vetted designers that we draw from as engagements open up. Engagements usually run three to six months at 30 to 40 hours a week. We match you based on your experience, working style, and schedule, and we'll tell you what's open today and what we expect in the coming months.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Own the UX for one or more product areas inside a client's team, from defining the problem to shipped work
Frame ambiguous problems, weigh a few options, make the call, and explain your reasoning to stakeholders
Design complex workflows, dashboards, and data-heavy interfaces that people use every day at work
Work inside the client's existing design system and codebase, and add to it when it makes sense
Work with product and engineering daily and move things forward on your own
Define success metrics and use usage data and customer feedback to improve the work after launch
WHAT YOU BRING
Required
5+ years of product design experience on complex workflows, platforms, or data-heavy applications
A portfolio that shows how you think, including what you personally owned and decided
Good judgment without a research team behind you or a lot of daily direction
Clear communication about the problem, the options you weighed, and how it turned out, including what you'd do differently
Care for edge cases, accessibility, and implementation-ready detail
At least 35 hours a week available, with overlap on US business hours. Some engagements need Central or Eastern time core hours.
Strongly preferred
You design in code. Many of our clients skip static mockups and review running builds on branches and pull requests.
Hands-on experience with React and Tailwind, Git and GitHub, and an AI coding tool like Cursor
Design system contributions, especially components built in code
Experience in B2B SaaS, fintech, insurance, or another regulated or operationally complex domain
Working knowledge of WCAG
WHAT WE OFFER

Remote work, with occasional client site visits on some engagements
Kopper manages the client relationship, contracting, and invoicing
