Our client, a major Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) serving more than 33 million members across Commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid programs, is seeking an experienced Clinical Pharmacist – Prior Authorization.
Position Details
Job Title: Clinical Pharmacist – Prior Authorization
Location: Remote – California
Duration: 12-month contract with potential for extension
Pay Rate: $60–$65/hour, depending on experience
This role is well suited for a PharmD with prior authorization review experience and strong knowledge of outpatient medications. The Clinical Pharmacist will perform PA reviews, apply medication policies and formulary criteria, and support timely access to safe, efficacious, and medically necessary medications.
Key Responsibilities
Perform prior authorization (PA) reviews and medication-related clinical determinations.
Support implementation of Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Committee-approved policies across Commercial and Medicare lines of business.
Apply clinical pharmacy expertise and established medication criteria when reviewing authorization requests.
Collaborate with Prior Authorization and Call Center teams to support appropriate medication access.
Complete reviews within applicable regulatory and accreditation timeframes.
Serve as a clinical resource regarding the drug formulary, medication policies, and appropriate medication use.
Respond to clinical and operational questions from internal and external stakeholders.
Communicate clearly and concisely with healthcare providers and members.
Maintain compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, corporate, and pharmacy benefit requirements.
Follow all applicable corporate policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree required.
Previous prior authorization review experience required.
Thorough knowledge of the therapeutic use of outpatient medications.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Software & Technology
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Copilot, and related applications.
AuthAccel experience preferred.
