Director / VP, Engineering & Construction – Utility-Scale Solar & BESS (REMOTE)
Location: Remote, United States
Preference: Pacific Time / West Coast or ability to work PST hours
Travel: Rare (once every 2 months)

A growing utility-scale renewable-energy developer is seeking a senior Engineering and Construction leader to take immediate technical ownership of its US solar and battery-storage portfolio.
Several 100MW+ projects are progressing through preconstruction, with EPC RFPs, design decisions, procurement planning and contractor selection already underway. One or two projects are expected to move into construction during 2027.
This is a hands-on position for someone who can steady ongoing work, challenge external consultants and EPC partners, and make informed decisions across engineering, procurement and construction.
The successful candidate could currently operate at Director, Senior Director, Head of EPC or VP level. Practical project ownership matters more than title.
Responsibilities:
Lead 100MW+ utility-scale solar and BESS projects from preconstruction through construction and COD.
Own technical decision-making across engineering, procurement and construction.
Review and challenge electrical, civil and structural designs produced by external consultants.
Manage EPC RFPs, technical evaluations, contractor selection and contract execution.
Lead technical and commercial evaluation of EPC and vendor proposals.
Develop procurement strategies for modules, inverters, racking, transformers and BESS equipment.
Ensure designs are constructible, financeable and aligned with permitting, interconnection and offtake requirements.
Manage project schedules, budgets, risks, changes and contractor performance.
Support construction teams as projects move into field execution.
Work directly with development, finance, commercial and legal stakeholders.
Resolve issues quickly and make clear, commercially informed technical decisions.
Ideal background:
Significant experience delivering utility-scale solar and BESS projects.
Genuine blend of engineering, procurement and construction execution.
Experience taking projects of approximately 100MW or larger into construction and COD.
Background with an IPP, renewable developer, EPC contractor or owner’s-engineering organisation.
Strong understanding of electrical, civil and structural design considerations.
Experience managing third-party engineers, EPCs, suppliers and construction partners.
Knowledge of EPC contracting, equipment procurement, constructability, scheduling and commercial risk.
Electrical or civil engineering foundation preferred.
Approximately 15+ years of relevant experience preferred, although proven project ownership is more important than tenure or title.
Comfortable operating within a lean organisation and getting directly involved in project detail.
