Role Description The Fractional Controller role is a contract, remote position responsible for overseeing and improving clients’ accounting and finance functions on a part-time or project-based basis. Day-to-day tasks include managing general ledger activities, reviewing and approving journal entries, coordinating month-end and year-end closings, and ensuring accuracy of financial statements. The role will support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and variance analysis, and provide guidance on internal controls, policies, and compliance with relevant accounting standards. The Fractional Controller will collaborate with client leadership teams, interpret financial results for non-finance stakeholders, and recommend process improvements, tools, and reporting structures that enhance operational efficiency and decision-making.
Qualifications
Strong accounting and financial reporting skills, including experience with general ledger management, month-end close, and preparation of GAAP-compliant financial statements.
Experience in budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and financial modeling to support strategic and operational decision-making.
Knowledge of internal controls, risk management, and compliance practices, with the ability to design and improve financial processes and policies.
Proficiency with accounting and ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, or similar), and strong Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities, with attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple client engagements.
Clear and professional communication skills, including the ability to present financial information to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate in a remote environment.
Relevant educational background, such as a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification is strongly preferred.
Prior experience as a Controller, Fractional Controller, or senior finance leader in public accounting, consulting, or industry is highly beneficial.
