Software Developer (Ruby on Rails) — Portugal-based, Remote

We’re looking for a Software Developer who enjoys solving complex problems, takes real ownership of their work, and wants to see the impact of what they build. You’ll be working on technology that is used every day by our Learners, partners and teams, helping shape an education model that’s built for the world we live in today.
What You'll Do
Design, develop, and maintain web applications using Ruby on Rails
Build front-end functionality using Stimulus.js
Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and system integrations
Administer, customise, and enhance our Moodle Learning Management System
Support integrations across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, including Microsoft Teams
Work with Docker, PostgreSQL, GitHub, and CI/CD workflows
Identify opportunities to improve existing systems and implement practical, scalable solutions
Work closely with colleagues across the business to understand requirements and deliver user-focused solutions
What We're Looking For
Based in Portugal and legally authorised to work here
At least 2 years' professional experience developing web applications, with hands-on experience using Ruby on Rails
Experience developing front-end functionality using Stimulus.js or a similar JavaScript framework
Experience working with RESTful APIs and system integrations
Experience with SQL databases, ideally PostgreSQL
Experience using Git/GitHub and collaborative development workflows
Experience with Docker or other containerised development environments
A good understanding of software testing, debugging, software architecture, and development best practice
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and take ownership of technical tasks
Professional-level English, written and spoken
It Would Be Great If You Also Have
Experience administering, customising, developing, or integrating with Moodle
Experience working with Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams integrations
Experience with CI/CD processes and deployment workflows
Experience working with education technology, learning platforms, or SaaS products
Experience maintaining and improving established systems, as well as developing new functionality
Don't worry if you don't have experience with every technology listed above, we're far more interested in your core development experience, problem-solving ability, and willingness to learn.
