# Database Administrator – Mainframe DB2
## About the Role
Pyramid Consulting, Inc. is seeking an experienced **Database Administrator (DBA)** with strong expertise in **Mainframe DB2** environments. This is a **6-month contract** opportunity with long-term potential and a fully remote work arrangement within the United States.
The role focuses on DB2 database administration in a **Mainframe z/OS** environment, including database setup and maintenance, performance monitoring and tuning, database recovery procedures, and logical and physical database design. The successful candidate will also work with customer staff and contract personnel and document technical work and maintenance procedures.
## Key Responsibilities
* Administer and maintain **DB2 databases** in a Mainframe **z/OS** operating system environment.
* Set up and maintain DB2 database environments.
* Create and manage **table spaces, tables, and views**.
* Support logical and physical database design.
* Monitor database performance and implement performance improvements.
* Perform database maintenance procedures, including:
* Load
* Reorg
* Imagecopy
* Runstats
* Recovery
* Work with large-scale operating system internals.
* Support database interfaces with **COBOL and Java** programming languages.
* Document technical work performed and create maintenance instructions.
* Communicate effectively with customer staff and other contract personnel.
* Use productivity and collaboration tools including **Microsoft Office, Teams, JIRA, ServiceNow, and GitLab/GitHub**.
* Support DB2 database schema design, SQL tuning, and database administration activities.
## Required Qualifications
* Experience as a **Mainframe DB2 Database Administrator**.
* Experience setting up and maintaining DB2 in a **Mainframe z/OS environment**.
* Experience with DB2 database administration and maintenance.
* Experience creating table spaces, tables, and views.
* Knowledge of logical and physical database design.
* Knowledge of database monitoring and performance improvement.
* Knowledge of DB2 database maintenance procedures, including Load, Reorg, Imagecopy, Runstats, and Recovery.
* Proficiency with large-scale operating system internals.
* Knowledge of interfaces with **COBOL and Java** programming languages.
* Effective interpersonal and communication skills for working with customers and contract personnel.
* Technical writing skills for documenting work and maintenance instructions.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Teams, JIRA, ServiceNow, and GitLab/GitHub.
