We are looking for an experienced Environment Manager to lead the management, stability, availability and lifecycle of distributed technology environments supporting a large-scale Java technology stack across both cloud and non-cloud/on-premises platforms.
The role will work closely with application development, architecture, infrastructure, DevOps, security, release management and business teams to ensure environments are reliable, secure, appropriately configured and available for development, testing and production operations.
Key Responsibilities
Own end-to-end management of distributed application environments across cloud and on-premises infrastructure.
Manage environments supporting Java/J2EE applications, middleware, APIs and associated technology components.
Lead environment provisioning, configuration, deployment, upgrades, patching and decommissioning.
Partner with Azure Cloud teams to manage and optimize cloud-based environments.
Ensure environment availability, stability, performance and capacity.
Coordinate environment readiness for application releases, testing and production deployments.
Manage dependencies across application, database, network, middleware, security and infrastructure teams.
Establish and maintain environment management standards, processes and governance.
Drive automation of environment provisioning, configuration and deployment using DevOps/CI-CD practices.
Lead incident, problem and service-management activities related to environment issues.
Identify recurring environment problems and drive permanent corrective actions.
Maintain environment inventories, configuration documentation and technology lifecycle plans.
Support cloud migration and modernization initiatives.
Ensure compliance with security, risk, audit and regulatory requirements.
Define and monitor KPIs/SLA metrics for environment availability, stability and delivery.
Manage technology vendors and third-party infrastructure partners where required.
Lead distributed/global teams and coordinate with senior technology stakeholders.
Technical Skills
Required:
Strong experience managing Java-based distributed technology environments
Experience across cloud and on-premises environments
Environment/release/deployment management from scratch and setting up the environment
Application servers and middleware
Linux/Unix and Windows environments
Databases and enterprise integrations
CI/CD and DevOps concepts
Cloud migration and modernization
Incident, problem and change management
Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure architecture
Preferred:
Microsoft Azure experience
Azure compute, networking, storage and monitoring
Kubernetes/container platforms

Infrastructure as Code

Observability and monitoring platforms
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
Ability to lead distributed/global technology teams

Ability to drive transformation rather than simply operate existing environments
Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capability
Experience
10-12 years of experience in technology/infrastructure/application operations
Significant experience in enterprise Java environments
Experience managing large, complex and geographically distributed technology estates
Proven experience leading technology teams and large-scale environment initiatives
Experience in financial services/banking or other highly regulated environments would be an advantage.
