Rust Engineer

About the role:
We are looking for a Senior Rust Software Engineer to join a new engineering initiative
focused on the development of security and defence solutions.
The role will be part of a newly established project in Romania, working on both security-
oriented devices and the software components behind them, including solutions such
as firewalls, gateways and other network security components.
As one of the first engineers joining the local setup, you will have the opportunity to
contribute from an early stage of the project, combining hands-on software
development with involvement in technical decisions, system integration and Proof of
Concept activities.
What you will be working on:
• Security-focused software components developed primarily in Rust.
• Network security solutions such as firewalls, gateways and related security
services.
• Software running on or interacting with dedicated security and defence devices.
• System-level components involving networking, communication interfaces and
TCP/IP-based protocols.
• Integration between software components, devices and the wider system
environment.
• Proofs of Concept for new technologies, architectural approaches and security-
related capabilities.
• Testing, debugging and troubleshooting across development and system
integration stages.• A new engineering setup in Romania, contributing from the early stages of the
project.
What you will do:
• Design, develop and maintain software components primarily using Rust.
• Contribute to the development of security and networking-related software,
including firewalls, gateways and associated components.
• Review requirements, specifications and technical documentation.
• Participate in the design and implementation of software modules and system-level
components.
• Carry out software development activities throughout the integration lifecycle, from
implementation to system acceptance.
• Create and validate Proofs of Concept for new technologies and technical
approaches.
• Perform testing, debugging and troubleshooting of software components.
• Work with communication interfaces, networking protocols and system
integrations.
• Collaborate closely with international engineering teams and technical
stakeholders.
• Contribute to defining technical practices and ways of working for the new
Romanian project.
• Participate in project ceremonies and development processes according to the
project methodology.
• Based on project needs, occasional international travel may be required.
Requirements:
• 5+ years of professional experience in software development.
• Strong hands-on experience with Rust.
• Good understanding of systems programming and low-level software development
concepts.
• Experience or solid knowledge of networking and communication protocols,
particularly TCP/IP.
• Strong experience with software testing, debugging and troubleshooting.
• Experience with Linux-based development environments.
• Knowledge of continuous integration, build and deployment processes and tools.
• Ability to understand and work with technical specifications and system-level
requirements.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical topics.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in an international environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field, or
equivalent professional experience.
Nice to Have:
• Previous professional experience with C and/or C++.
• Experience developing networking or cybersecurity products.
• Experience with firewalls, gateways, network security appliances or similar solutions.
• Experience with embedded systems or software running on dedicated hardware
devices.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity and network security concepts.
• Knowledge of WebAssembly technologies such as WASI or WIT.
• Experience working in defence, aerospace, telecommunications or other complex
and highly regulated environments.
• Experience contributing to the early stages of a new project or engineering team.
