Role Description
The AI Safety Researcher / Responsible AI Specialist / AI Governance Specialist helps ensure that artificial-intelligence systems are developed, deployed, and used safely, fairly, transparently, and responsibly. This role evaluates potential risks across the AI lifecycle and supports practices that protect users, customers, organisations, and wider society.
The position assesses AI models, data sources, use cases, and operational controls to identify issues such as bias, privacy risk, harmful outputs, security vulnerabilities, lack of explainability, and regulatory exposure. It works closely with Data Science, Engineering, Product, Legal, Compliance, Security, Risk, and business teams to establish governance requirements, testing processes, documentation standards, and risk-mitigation plans.
The role monitors developments in responsible-AI practices, relevant regulations, and model performance after deployment. It provides clear guidance to stakeholders, supports internal training and audit activities, and helps build scalable frameworks that enable responsible innovation while maintaining trust and accountability.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Law, Ethics, Risk Management, Public Policy, or a related field.
Experience in AI safety, responsible AI, AI governance, model risk, data ethics, technology risk, compliance, or machine-learning development.
Strong understanding of machine-learning and generative-AI concepts, including model training, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring.
Knowledge of AI risks such as bias, fairness, privacy, explainability, hallucinations, misuse, security threats, and harmful content.
Experience assessing AI use cases, model outputs, datasets, controls, or governance processes.
Ability to develop AI-risk assessments, governance frameworks, policies, standards, model documentation, and approval workflows.
Familiarity with responsible-AI principles, AI regulations, data-protection requirements, and industry governance frameworks.
Experience designing or supporting model testing, red-teaming, bias evaluation, safety reviews, or post-deployment monitoring.
Ability to translate technical AI risks into clear recommendations for business, legal, risk, and executive stakeholders.
Strong analytical, research, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
Experience collaborating with technical, product, legal, compliance, security, and data-governance teams.
Familiarity with model cards, data sheets, impact assessments, audit evidence, and documentation practices.
Excellent communication, stakeholder-management, and training skills.
Experience with regulated industries, enterprise AI programmes, AI assurance, or technology-policy work is an advantage.
