About the Opportunity:
The STAFF SOFTWARE ENGINEER role focuses on leading the technical direction of a backend engineering team responsible for building scalable, secure, and reliable distributed cloud-native systems. This role significantly impacts the development of backend services that enable legal professionals and AI to interact with organizational knowledge at scale. The engineer will guide architectural decisions and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver durable systems that maintain performance, security, and compliance as data volumes increase.
Responsibilities:
Serve as a hands-on technical leader defining team direction and engineering standards.
Lead architectural discussions and make decisions across services and distributed systems.
Establish scalable, secure, reliable, and maintainable system patterns.
Guide technology stack evolution as products mature.
Drive initiatives to improve system performance, reliability, cost efficiency, developer experience, and engineering quality.
Architect and build cloud-native backend services and APIs.
Design event-driven, service-oriented systems and data pipelines that handle load, retries, and partial failure.
Build systems for processing, organizing, and surfacing large volumes of content securely.
Integrate AI-powered services to enhance information retrieval.
Incorporate security, permissions, and compliance into system design.
Design resilient systems for multi-region reliability and performance.
Instrument services for proactive issue diagnosis using logging, metrics, and tracing.
Identify and resolve throughput, latency, scalability, and cost bottlenecks.
Ensure correctness at scale through idempotency, ordering, deduplication, and rate limiting.
Own complex technical initiatives from design to deployment and operation.
Requirements:
Experience in technical leadership within backend or distributed systems engineering.
Expertise in designing and building scalable, secure, cloud-native backend services.
Strong knowledge of distributed systems principles, including data pipelines and event-driven architectures.
Familiarity with integrating AI-powered services.
Ability to design systems with strict security, permissions, and compliance requirements.
Experience with system performance monitoring and operational excellence.
Pay Range and Compensation Package:
