Linux Support Engineer
Remote: Poland
Contract/B2B
Healthcare domain / PACS DICOM experience is not Mandatory and client is willing to give training.
Window of operation (UK Time)
Initially You will work with the rest of the team in regular shift (8am to 5pm-UK Time).
Once the client is confident and see that you can handled issue by yourself, client may move you to 12pm to 9pm shift-UK Time.
Client also plans to roster the shift over the weekend doing a regular shift (8am to 5pm-UK time).
Job Summary
The Linux Support Engineer will be responsible for providing hands-on support, troubleshooting, and operational stability for PACS and Enterprise Archive systems hosted on Linux platforms. The role requires strong expertise in Linux system administration, PACS workflows, DICOM services, and performance troubleshooting to ensure uninterrupted clinical imaging operations
Key Responsibilities
Provide first- and second-level support for healthcare IT systems, including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
Handle Linux storage and filesystem issues, including NFS mount failures, disk latency, inode exhaustion, and large-scale medical image storage management.
Use Linux performance and diagnostic tools such as top, vmstat, iostat, and netstat to troubleshoot process-level and system-level bottlenecks.
Respond to user inquiries via phone, email, and ticketing systems in a timely and professional manner.
Participate in a rotating schedule to monitor the support queue, triage incoming tickets, and assign them to the appropriate product or functional team.
Collaborate with IT, Product, and Engineering teams to escalate and resolve complex issues.
Maintain detailed records of incidents, solutions, and workflows in the ticketing system.
Assist with system updates, installations, and user onboarding for new software and hardware.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of support processes and knowledge base.
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal IT policies.
Support key customers and maintain positive relationships, providing updates and guidance as needed.
Perform hands-on troubleshooting of PACS and Enterprise Archive applications on Linux, addressing service failures, process crashes, disk space issues, and file system permission problems.
Analyze Linux system, application, and DICOM listener logs to identify and resolve issues such as failed image ingestion, study corruption, delayed processing, and archive access failures.
Validate, monitor, and troubleshoot DICOM services (C-STORE, C-FIND, C-MOVE, C-GET) using Linux-based tools and command-line utilities.
Conduct network-level troubleshooting on Linux systems to resolve PACS workflow issues related to ports, firewalls, TLS configuration, and DICOM/HL7 connectivity.
Manage and maintain Linux services, cron jobs, storage mounts, and system configurations to ensure consistent PACS and archive availability.
Monitor and troubleshoot system performance metrics (CPU, memory, disk I/O) to proactively identify issues impacting PACS ingestion, retrieval, or archive performance.
Execute PACS failover, restart, and recovery activities on Linux systems, ensuring minimal downtime during outages, patching, or maintenance windows.
Follow defined operational SOPs and support processes while ensuring compliance with healthcare IT standards and best practices.
Required Skills & Experience
Solid understanding and hands-on experience with PC and server hardware platforms and command lines on Linux and Windows
Experience troubleshooting complex applications and software products
Proficiency in Windows operating systems (Windows 7 and above, Server) and Linux system administration
Familiarity with healthcare IT systems, including EMR and clinical software
Experience with ticketing systems and ITIL-based support processes
Knowledge of archival and storage media
Excellent troubleshooting, diagnostic, and analytical skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks, work under pressure, and collaborate across teams
Flexibility to work varied hours and participate in on-call rotations
Hands-on experience troubleshooting PACS/Enterprise Archive issues on Linux, including service failures, process crashes, disk space issues, and file system permissions.
Ability to analyze Linux logs (system logs, application logs, DICOM listener logs) to identify PACS issues such as failed image ingestion, study corruption, or delayed processing.
Experience validating and troubleshooting DICOM services (C-STORE, C-FIND, C-MOVE, C-GET) using Linux-based tools and command-line utilities.
Working knowledge of network-level troubleshooting on Linux for PACS workflows (ports, firewalls, TLS, connectivity issues impacting DICOM/HL7 traffic).
Experience managing Linux services, cron jobs, storage mounts, and performance metrics (CPU, memory, I/O) to ensure PACS and archive stability.
Experience with Linux storage and filesystem troubleshooting for PACS/EA systems, including NFS mounts, disk latency issues, inode exhaustion, and large-volume image storage management.
Ability to perform process-level and performance troubleshooting on Linux using tools like top, vmstat, iostat, and netstat to diagnose PACS ingestion, retrieval, or archive slowness.
Hands-on experience with PACS failover, restart, and recovery activities on Linux, ensuring minimal downtime during service restarts, patching, or unplanned outages.
Strong experience supporting PACS / Enterprise Archive systems on Linux platforms.
Proficient Linux administration and troubleshooting skills in healthcare environments.
Solid understanding of PACS workflows, DICOM services, and archive operations.
Experience with Linux-based storage, networking, and performance monitoring.
Good analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to document issues and resolutions clearly.
