Head Engineer

🚀 We're hiring a hands-on Head of Engineering at Gabeo.ai.
📍 US-based · Fully remote · Full-time
Every dollar lost to a misinterpreted contract is a dollar that never reaches patient care. We exist to make sure that doesn't happen.
We're building AI that reconciles contracts, claims and policies to deliver measurable financial outcomes: finding the dollars healthcare organizations have earned but never collected, and making sure every agreement is understood, every responsibility is clear, and every dollar supports better care.
I'm looking for a builder who takes ownership, solves hard problems and gets things done, and helps everyone around them do the same.
You'll work directly with me, our CTO and our engineering team. You'll write Python, review code, shape architecture alongside our CTO and work with the team to take products from 0 to 1 and into dependable production.
🎯 What you'll own
• Architecture and execution, from technical decisions to shipped features.
• Hands-on development, thoughtful code reviews and unblocking engineers.
• Reliable integrations with healthcare payer and provider systems.
• Engineering quality: testing, security, observability and incident response.
• Helping the team move quickly without creating problems customers pay for later.
🛠️ What you should bring
• Strong Python and backend engineering skills, with products you've personally shipped and operated.
• Experience leading an engineering team while staying close to the code.
• Practical judgment about what to build, what to simplify and when to change direction.
• Production experience with LLMs, RAG, agentic frameworks, tool calling and vector databases.
• An understanding of AI evaluation, retrieval quality, hallucination controls, latency and cost.
• Experience turning messy documents into usable data: OCR, extraction and validation. Healthcare contracts, claims and policy experience is a strong plus.
• The ability to design secure, auditable workflows with human review where it matters.
Startup experience is a plus. Clear evidence of ownership and execution matters more.
