Role Description The SONAR Development Engineer at MadaROV will design, implement, and optimize sonar processing algorithms and software used in ROV-based underwater missions. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing and testing sonar data acquisition and signal processing modules, analyzing sonar datasets to improve performance, and troubleshooting technical issues in collaboration with ROV and software teams. The engineer will document designs, write technical reports, and contribute to integration of sonar solutions into existing ROV platforms and workflows. This is a part-time, remote role that requires effective communication, autonomous work habits, and consistent coordination with distributed team members.
Qualifications
Strong foundation in sonar theory, underwater acoustics, and signal processing, with practical experience applying these concepts.
Proficiency in software development for scientific or engineering applications (e.g., C/C++, Python, MATLAB) and familiarity with version control tools.
Experience with data analysis, numerical methods, and algorithm optimization for real-time or near–real-time systems.
Understanding of ROV or marine robotics operations, embedded systems, or sensor integration in marine environments.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage part-time schedules, and communicate clearly with multidisciplinary teams.
Experience with 2D/3D visualization of sonar or bathymetric data, and familiarity with marine industry standards, is an advantage.
