Position Summary
As an integral member of the Pharmacy team serving inpatients and ambulatory care patients, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting the pharmacists in the technical aspects of drug distribution within the professional practice functional area.
Duties
Ensuring the smooth functioning of pharmacy teams on various sites
Working under the direct supervision of the pharmacists
Preparing both sterile and non-sterile extemporaneous products
Participating in the training of new employees and performing other duties and responsibilities consistent with the job classification
A registered Pharmacy technician will be able to expand on their scope of practice to cost-effectively manage additional workflow
Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program at an accredited college or recognized equivalent required
Registration as a Pharmacy Technician (Part A) in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Previous hospital experience with cytotoxic drug safe handling and sterile intravenous admixture service preferred
Ability to work under minimal supervision and to manage competing priorities/deadlines
Ability to learn and troubleshoot changing technologies/machinery (e.g. automated dispensing cabinets)
Previous hospital experience with automation technology preferred
Two years practical and related experience preferred
Membership with a professional pharmacy association is an asset
