Position Summary
We are looking for a talented, passionate, and highly motivated individual to perform wet lab activities of our group. The successful Research Technician level II candidate is expected to be proficient in advanced molecular biology and biochemistry methods and will be responsible for assisting with group projects. Research may encompass hypothesis- or discovery-driven approaches to make genomic discoveries that may be translated to improve patient care and outcomes. Results-oriented, dedicated researchers with great communications skills interested in working in a dynamic and respectful environment are encouraged to apply.
Duties
Working under the direction of senior staff, the successful applicant:
Will utilize standardized laboratory techniques and procedures in cell and molecular biology applications
Perform routine and specialized histological and immunohistochemical staining
Tissue processing, embedding & microtomy of clinical tissue
Maintain, passage and cryopreserve cell lines and primary cell cultures.
Perform Flow cytometry experiments
Perform experiments and analysis; communicate and maintain records of experimental data.
Perform genomics library preparation (RNA, whole genome, exome).
Process clinical samples
Contribute to overall operations of labs including managing inventory and space management
Responsible for maintaining research notebooks and sample management and data entry
Qualifications
At minimum, Completion of a BSc degree in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry or related discipline is required (MSc degree preferred)
Two (2) years related experience is required.
Two (2) years of demonstrated research experience is preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent organization, experience preparing reports and ability to learn quickly.
Ability to work under pressure with attention to detail and perform multiple concurrent tasks.
Can work well both independently and in a team environment
Ability to exercise significant independent judgement
Experience with data analysis (GraphPad Prism or R)
Ability to perform duties professionally and courteously and produce high-quality results while meeting deadlines by UHN standards.
Ability to understand and comply with regulatory issues involving human subjects.
Highly self-motivated
