Compensation: $125,000 to $250,000 per year, negotiable based on experience

About the Role
We are looking for a Senior or Lead Appian Developer to work full-time on a client engagement with one of our government contractor partners. You will help build and enhance a large-scale, mission-critical federal enterprise platform built on Appian and hosted on AWS.
You will own complex features end to end, set technical standards for the development team, and work closely with business and functional experts to turn detailed requirements into reliable, secure, and maintainable applications. At the lead level, you will also guide other developers through design decisions, code reviews, and releases.
What You'll Do
Application Development: Design and build Appian applications, including process models, records, SAIL interfaces, expression rules, and data types.
Business Rules: Translate complex, rules-heavy business requirements into maintainable workflows, approval routing, and validation logic.
Document Workflows: Build features that generate, route, and manage structured documents across multi-step review and approval processes.
Integrations: Build and maintain integrations with external systems using connected systems, web APIs, and REST/SOAP services.
Data: Design data models and write efficient SQL for application data and reporting.
AWS Environment: Work within AWS-hosted environments, coordinating with infrastructure teams on deployments, performance, and security.
Security & Compliance: Build to federal security requirements and support security reviews and audits.
Performance & Quality: Tune application performance, use Appian Health Check, and write automated tests.
Technical Leadership: Lead design discussions, conduct code reviews, mentor developers, and establish development standards.
Delivery: Participate in Agile ceremonies, estimate work, and support releases across development, test, and production environments.
Requirements (Must Have)
Location: Must be based in the United States.
Security Clearance: Active U.S. security clearance.
Appian Certification: Appian Certified Senior Developer or Certified Lead Developer.
Appian: 5+ years of hands-on Appian development, including complex, enterprise-scale applications.
Complex Workflow Applications: Experience building large, rules-driven applications with multi-step approvals, document generation, and extensive validation logic.
AWS: Hands-on experience with applications hosted on AWS (e.g., EC2, RDS, S3, IAM).
Core Appian Skills: Process modeling, SAIL interfaces, records, expression rules, custom data types, and integrations.
Data: Strong SQL and relational database design skills.
Communication: Ability to work directly with functional experts and explain technical tradeoffs clearly.
Nice to Have
Experience delivering software for federal agencies or government contractors.
Experience with Appian AI capabilities and intelligent document processing.
Experience with AWS GovCloud or other government-hosted environments.
Familiarity with federal security frameworks such as RMF and STIGs.
Experience leading development teams in Agile or SAFe environments.
Automated deployment and DevOps practices for Appian.
