Job Title: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) – Levels I & II
Location: Hybrid (3 days onsite Arlington, VA)
Reports To: Partner / Principal
FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-Time

Role Summary
We are seeking accounting professionals to support federal financial management and accounting (FM&A) engagements. In this role, you will help federal clients strengthen financial reporting, prepare for and respond to financial statement audits, improve accounting controls and processes, and advance accounting modernization initiatives.
This posting covers two hiring levels. Candidates may be considered at Level I as a developing professional working under guidance, or at Level II as an experienced professional working with appreciable independence. Both levels perform the same core work; the difference lies in the complexity of assignments, the degree of autonomy, and the depth of prior federal audit experience.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance with applicable reporting and procedural standards.
Analyze accounting operations, trends, costs, budgetary resources, financial commitments, and obligations to project future trends and inform client decision-making.
Research, collect, verify, and analyze financial data, translating findings into strategic and operational recommendations.
Conduct or support FM&A studies and evaluations.
Audit Readiness & Remediation
Support audit readiness and audit remediation efforts for federal clients.
Help clients achieve and sustain compliance with finance and accounting standards.
Develop, evaluate, and improve accounting controls, processes, procedures, information systems, and supporting documentation.
Process Improvement & Modernization
Guide and assist clients through accounting improvement and modernization initiatives.
Develop approaches to problem-solving, process change, change management, and solution implementation, with attention to enterprise-wide integration.
Identify best practices and assess performance measurements.
Documentation & Client Communication
Prepare reports, procedures, draft regulations, guidelines, briefings, and related documentation.
Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of organizational strategy, standards, policies, and procedures.
Prepare background papers, briefings, presentations, and other organizational communications as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a similar discipline.
An active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
An active Secret security clearance, or eligibility to obtain one.
Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) / Department of War (DoW) clients or programs.
Experience — Level I
3+ years of general FM&A experience, including at least 1 year auditing the financial statements of federal government agencies or preparing federal agencies for audit.
Applies fundamental accounting concepts, processes, practices, and procedures to work assignments.
Performs work requiring practical experience and professional training, under supervision or with guidance from more senior team members.
Experience — Level II
5+ years of general FM&A experience, including at least 2 years auditing the financial statements of federal government agencies or preparing federal agencies for audit.
Applies accounting expertise across multiple complex assignments.
Operates with appreciable independence and latitude in developing methodologies and presenting solutions.
Handles broad assignments that may require originality, judgment, and innovation in determining how to accomplish tasks.
Contributes to project deliverables, recommendations, and performance metrics as applicable.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting federal audit remediation efforts and sustaining audit-ready financial operations.
Experience designing or improving accounting controls, processes, and supporting documentation.
Experience contributing to accounting improvement or modernization initiatives.
Experience drafting policies, procedures, guidelines, briefings, or similar client-facing documentation.
Experience applying process improvement and change management approaches in a consulting or client-service setting.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Working knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and federal financial management and audit practices.
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate financial data and translate it into clear strategic and operational recommendations.
Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and completeness in financial records and reporting.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, procedures, briefings, and presentations for client audiences.
Ability to work collaboratively with client stakeholders and project teams.
Sound judgment and problem-solving ability; at Level II, the ability to determine methodology and approach with limited direction.
Organizational skills sufficient to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work extended periods at a computer and participate in virtual and in-person client engagements.
