AI Governance Attorney (In-House)

Epiq Counsel is partnering with an innovative Fortune 100 technology-focused organization to identify an experienced AI Lawyer to support AI governance, regulatory compliance, and responsible AI initiatives across the business.
This is an excellent opportunity for a practical and collaborative technology attorney or AI governance professional who enjoys navigating emerging regulatory frameworks, partnering with cross-functional stakeholders, and helping organizations responsibly deploy and scale artificial intelligence solutions.
Engagement details:
• Location: Remote within the United States; U.S. time zones preferred.
• Schedule: Full-time, 40/hour per week.
• Duration: End of March 2027, with potential extension thereafter.
• Start Date: ASAP
What you'll support:
• Help update, operationalize, and maintain the organization's existing AI governance framework.
• Document, track, and manage AI use cases as they arise across the business.
• Support internal AI reviews and product-related AI reviews.
• Partner closely with product teams, engineers, legal, privacy, and compliance stakeholders to understand AI functionality, data flows, and potential risks.
• Provide practical guidance regarding AI-related regulatory, compliance, governance, and operational considerations.
• Assist with implementation and monitoring of AI governance processes, controls, and documentation requirements.
• Evaluate AI initiatives through a risk-based lens while enabling business objectives and innovation.
• Maintain a highly responsive, solutions-oriented approach in a fast-paced environment.
What we're looking for:
• JD required.
• Professional with strong AI governance, technology law, regulatory compliance, or AI risk management experience.
• Ideally 3–5 years of regulatory and compliance experience, including at least 2–3 years of directly relevant AI governance, AI compliance, or technology law experience.
• Familiarity with the EU AI Act, NIST AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF), ISO 42001, AI management systems, and related AI governance frameworks.
• Experience reviewing emerging technology use cases and providing practical, business-oriented guidance.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with legal, privacy, compliance, engineering, product, and business stakeholders.
• Strong analytical skills and sound judgment in identifying and managing legal, regulatory, compliance, and operational risks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-legal audiences.
• AIGP certification is highly desirable but not required. Candidates should be familiar with AIGP concepts and ISO-based governance approaches.
• Comfortable operating independently while managing multiple concurrent priorities in a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape.
• Epiq Counsel partners with industry-leading clients in support of their sophisticated interim talent needs. Must be interested in practicing in an alternative, fixed-term legal services model.
