Staff Accountant – Client Accounting Services (CPA / CPA Candidate)

KDM Business Consulting is a Southern California tax and accounting firm serving small businesses and individuals. Our clients include real estate investors, S-corporation owner-operators, hospitality businesses, and e-commerce companies. We run a modern, fully cloud-based practice using QuickBooks Online, Drake Tax Online, and Google Workspace. We're looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant early in their career, ideally a recent CPA or an active CPA candidate, to join our client accounting team.
What You'll Do
Maintain the books for a portfolio of small-business clients in QuickBooks Online, including transaction categorization, bank and credit card reconciliations, and journal entries.
Perform monthly and quarterly closes and prepare client financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow).
Support payroll processing and payroll tax compliance through QuickBooks Online Payroll.
Prepare year-end workpapers that feed into business and individual tax returns.
Assist with tax preparation during busy season, depending on your experience and interest.
Communicate with clients to request missing documents, resolve discrepancies, and answer routine bookkeeping questions.
Help improve our workflows as we expand our use of automation and AI tools.
What We're Looking For
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
Recent CPA licensee or active CPA candidate strongly preferred. We support you while you complete your exams.
1–3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, either in public accounting or at a small-business client accounting firm.
Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online. QBO ProAdvisor certification is a plus.
Solid understanding of accrual vs. cash accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close.
Familiarity with S-corporation, partnership, and rental real estate accounting is a plus.
Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills and comfort working in an entirely cloud-based environment.
Organized, accurate, and able to manage several client deadlines at once.
Clear written and verbal communication with clients.
Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Salary: $60-70K per year, depending on experience and licensure status.
