Kefilo is building a NutritionTech and personalised wellness transformation ecosystem combining functional nutrition, food science, technology, data, fitness and intelligent food manufacturing.
We are developing a Nutrition Intelligence Engine and scalable food R&D and production systems to deliver personalised, evidence-based nutrition and wellness solutions.
Role Overview
We are looking for a Legal Officer to build and manage the legal foundation of Kefilo across food products, technology, intellectual property, contracts, partnerships, employment, compliance and business operations.
This is an equity-based founding opportunity for a legal professional who wants to contribute strategically to building and protecting a technology-driven nutrition and wellness company.
Key Responsibilities1. Corporate & Business Legal
Support incorporation, corporate documentation and ongoing legal requirements.
Draft, review and manage agreements with employees, consultants, founders, vendors and partners.
Develop legal templates, NDAs, MOUs, service agreements and commercial contracts.
Advise the founding team on legal risks associated with business decisions.
Food & Nutrition Compliance
Research and advise on applicable food, nutrition, labelling, packaging and advertising regulations.
Support compliance requirements for functional foods, nutrition products and food manufacturing.
Review product claims and marketing communication from a legal and regulatory perspective.
Coordinate with relevant regulatory professionals and authorities when required.
Intellectual Property
Develop and manage Kefilo's IP protection strategy.
Coordinate trademarks, patents, copyrights, trade secrets and other IP matters.
Work with Food Scientists, R&D teams and patent professionals to identify protectable formulations, processes, technologies and innovations.
Support documentation and protection of proprietary recipes, formulations, processes, algorithms and technology.
Technology & Data Legal
Review legal requirements related to the Kefilo app, Nutrition Intelligence Engine, software and digital services.
Support privacy, data protection, consent and user-data documentation.
Review third-party technology, API, software and platform agreements.
Help establish appropriate legal safeguards for nutrition, wellness and user data.
Commercial Contracts & Partnerships
Draft and negotiate agreements with food manufacturers, suppliers, laboratories, distributors and technology providers.
Support partnerships with gyms, corporates, healthcare professionals, institutions and other ecosystem partners.
Review franchise, licensing, manufacturing and technology partnership structures.
Identify contractual risks and protect Kefilo's commercial interests.
R&D & Innovation Legal Support
Support legal structures for collaborations with universities, laboratories, researchers and R&D institutions.
Review research collaboration, technology transfer, licensing and IP ownership agreements.
Protect confidentiality and proprietary information during product development and R&D.
Support legal documentation for grants, incubators and innovation programs.
Risk & Compliance Management
Identify legal and regulatory risks across Kefilo's operations.
Develop basic compliance frameworks, checklists and SOPs.
Monitor relevant regulatory changes affecting food, nutrition, technology and wellness businesses.
Maintain legal records, contracts, renewals and compliance documentation.
Strategic Legal Advisory
Work directly with the founders on legal aspects of new products, business models and expansion.
Evaluate legal structures for scaling across cities and markets.
Support fundraising documentation, investor agreements and due diligence.
Help build a legally robust foundation for long-term growth.
Ideal Candidate
LLB/LLM or equivalent legal qualification.
Experience in corporate, commercial, food, technology, IP or regulatory law.
Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills.
Understanding of Indian food and business regulatory frameworks.
Experience with startups, FMCG, FoodTech, NutritionTech or technology companies is an advantage.
Strong interest in intellectual property, innovation and emerging businesses.
Ability to work independently and provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.
Strong documentation, research and communication skills.
Engagement
Equity-based founding position.
Part-time contribution: approximately 20–25 hours/week.
Remote/hybrid engagement.
No fixed salary at the current stage.
Fixed compensation will be introduced after funding and revenue stabilisation.
Equity will be determined based on expertise, contribution, responsibility, commitment and long-term ownership.
Core founding members will follow a 5-year vesting structure.
Key Outcome
Build a strong legal, regulatory, contractual and IP foundation for Kefilo while protecting its food products, Nutrition Intelligence Engine, R&D innovations, technology, partnerships and long-term commercial interests.
