GAN Inc., founded in 2016, is a Guyana-based organisation focused on expanding youth opportunities in animation and digital media across Guyana and the Caribbean. Guided by the vision to lead, activate, and contribute to change in the local animation and digital media industries, GAN builds strong connections within the digital and creative community, especially among youth. Core initiatives include the Annual Digital Painting Summer Camp, Creating Creative Connections Master Classes, Animation Collaborations, and the Girls in ICT Interschools’ Initiative, all designed to inspire innovation and creativity. GAN also coordinates participation in international festivals, conferences, and events to support training, employment, and global exposure. The organisation has rapidly grown, engaging dozens of members, volunteers, and corporate partners while reaching nearly two hundred students. The organisation is looking to hire a Book Illustrator for a commissioned book project.
Role Description
The Book Illustrator will create engaging, high-quality illustrations for a commissioned print and digital book project. This temporary, remote role involves developing character designs, environments, and visual narratives based on manuscripts and creative briefs, while aligning artwork with project timelines and brand guidelines. Project tasks include collaborating with the author and editors, producing initial sketches and storyboards, refining artwork through feedback, and preparing final illustration files in formats suitable for publication. The illustrator will also ensure visual consistency across pages, meet agreed deadlines, and maintain clear communication with GAN’s project team throughout the production process.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a Bachelor of Arts, Animation, and possess strong skills in Digital Illustration and Painting for both print and digital formats.
Candidates should possess strong skills in Drawing and Graphics to create clear, expressive visual storytelling.
Candidates should possess strong skills in Graphic Design, including layout awareness and file preparation for publication.
Experience working with industry-standard illustration and design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Procreate, or similar) is beneficial.
Ability to interpret creative briefs, visualise stories, and incorporate feedback constructively is essential.
Strong time management skills and the ability to work independently in a remote setting are required.
Prior experience illustrating children’s or youth-oriented books, comics, or educational materials is an asset.
A portfolio demonstrating relevant illustration and design work is required; formal education in art, design, or related fields is an advantage but not mandatory.
