Role Description The Student Game Developer volunteer role involves contributing to the design and development of educational games, with a primary focus on “The MUN Game.” Day-to-day tasks may include implementing gameplay features, writing and refining game logic, collaborating with designers on mechanics and user experience, and troubleshooting technical issues within the game codebase. The role also includes participating in remote team meetings, sharing progress, reviewing peers’ work, and iterating based on feedback to improve performance and player engagement. This is a volunteer, remote position, suitable for students or emerging developers seeking hands-on experience in a supportive, project-based environment.
Qualifications
Ability to apply core programming principles, including Programming and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP).
Skills in Game Programming and Gameplay Programming to implement and refine interactive features.
Understanding of Game Design concepts, including mechanics, balance, and player experience.
Familiarity with at least one game engine or framework (e.g., Unity, Unreal, Godot, or similar) and basic version control (e.g., Git).
Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and willingness to learn from feedback.
Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate respectfully within a diverse remote team.
Current student or early-career developer with an interest in educational games and volunteer projects; prior project or portfolio work is a plus but not required.
