Surgical Lead - Gaza

Role: Surgical Lead
Remuneration: Negotiable (dependant on experience)
Hours: Full time, with some weekend and evening working required to support the humanitarian programme delivery.
Duration: Up to 31st of December 2026 (funding pipeline dependent) with opportunity for extension.
Deployment Pattern: Approximately 8 weeks in Gaza followed by 3 weeks out, supporting continuity of leadership while allowing appropriate rest and wellbeing periods. Some flexibility may be possible depending on operational requirements and individual circumstances.
Location: Gaza (occupied Palestinian territory) – field-based with potential regional travel to Amman, Jordan.
Candidates must be able to travel quickly through Jordan, securing visas on arrival with eligible documentation. If you do not meet this requirement, you can join our register of humanitarian and health professionals for other opportunities.
Can you provide clinical and operational leadership to strengthen surgical services across UK-Med's humanitarian responses in Gaza?
UK-Med is looking for an experienced Surgical Lead to support our ongoing health response in Gaza.
This is a senior clinical leadership role combining hands-on surgical practice with significant service-management responsibilities and quality improvement. You will help ensure that surgical services are safe, effective and responsive to evolving patient needs, while working closely with national colleagues and UK-Med clinical leadership.
The role will suit an experienced surgeon who is confident leading in complex environments, supporting multidisciplinary teams and helping strengthen surgical practice and services. A key part of the role will be working alongside national colleagues to support learning, strengthen practice and contribute to sustainable improvements in surgical care.
We are looking for someone with strong clinical judgement and leadership capability, ideally with experience working in humanitarian, conflict-affected or resource-constrained healthcare settings. Experience in emergency, trauma, orthopaedic and/or conflict surgery would be advantageous, although the emphasis of this role is on surgical leadership and management rather than a particular surgical specialty.
