ABOUT GENERAL MEDICINE
General Medicine is building a healthcare store that makes it delightfully simple to access the best care in the world. We make it easy for customers to shop for any product or service in healthcare, compare upfront cash and insurance prices, understand if the service is right for them and purchase it.
Behind that simplicity is complex infrastructure: payer integrations, pricing logic, eligibility systems, reconciliation workflows, and financial rails. We're building the system that makes transact-able healthcare possible.
THE ROLE
We're hiring a VP / Head of Product to build our product function from the ground up. This is the founding product leadership seat: you'll set how we roadmap, how we prioritize, how ideas get pitched and greenlit, and how product and engineering work together, before writing most of that playbook yourself.
This role reports directly to the CEO and sits on the senior leadership team.
You'll own the roadmap across consumer experience, clinical/provider tooling, and pricing and payer infrastructure, allocating engineering capacity across these areas. You will drive priorities and build alignment across the CEO, Medical Director, and senior leadership team.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Build the function
- Establish the product org: hiring, processes, review cadences, and operating rhythms
- Establish how we write specs, define success metrics, run experiments, and decide what to build next
- Define complex initiatives—such as new consumer experiences, payer integrations, or clinical workflows. Turn those into execution plans with clear owners.
Own the roadmap
- Set and evolve a product roadmap across multiple focus areas at once, balancing consumer experience, clinical delivery, and the pricing and payer infrastructure underneath both
- Allocate engineering capacity and justify trade-offs across competing priorities
- Balance near-term delivery with core architecture and infrastructure needs
Sell the vision
- Develop business cases for proposed features, including resource needs, expected outcomes, and timing
- Champion initiatives with the CEO, Medical Director, CFO, and VP Engineering
- Communicate product strategy internally to cross-functional teams and externally to partners, payers, and investors
Ship
- Write specs, review designs, and resolve day-to-day blockers for engineering
- Partner with engineering leadership on sprint planning, sequencing, and capacity estimation using customer and care-team insights
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You have founder or early product leadership experience taking products from 0 to 1. You have acquired initial users, pitched stakeholders, and established core operational workflows in ambiguous environments.
Specifically:
- You've built and shipped a product from 0 to 1, whether as a founder, an early product hire, or in a similarly ownership-heavy role
- Demonstrated ability to build data-backed business cases and secure buy-in from leadership
- You've managed a roadmap across more than one workstream at a time and made real tradeoffs about where limited engineering capacity goes
- You've built product process and team structure from scratch rather than inheriting it
- You come from a startup background and are comfortable with ambiguity, thin resourcing, and moving fast
- Clear written and verbal communication skills to align engineering, clinical, and business stakeholders
Nice to have:
- Healthcare, healthtech, or another regulated-industry background
- Experience in a marketplace or two-sided business model
- A quantitative or technical background that lets you go deep with engineering when needed
